Position Summary
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Director, will assist in the coordination and implementation of the City Wide Summer Day Camps and Before and After Camp Programs. Provide orientation, training, supervision and evaluations of camp supervisors, counsellors and volunteers. Prepare payroll, order supplies and equipment, book out trips and special guests, record and track camp budgets, and complete administrative duties as required. Follow policies and procedures, while delivering camp services. Ensure there is the appropriate number of staff working in each summer camp program to meet the camper to staff ratios. Work effectively with Coordinator, Recreation Assistants, Directors, Supervisors, peers, participants and the public.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with local organizations to book field trips and special guests for the camp program.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to schedule bussing for camp field trips and swimming trips
- Order sports, arts and crafts, and games equipment and supplies.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement the training for Camp Supervisors, Before and After Camp Supervisors and Counsellors.
- Ensure all invoices, for equipment, special guests and bussing, are processed in a timely manner.
- Record and track all camp expenditures in the appropriate databases.
- Develop resources for Camp Supervisors to assist in the development and implementation of programming.
- Ensure camper attendance lists and rosters are printed and provided to the Camp Supervisors
- Assist the Camp Supervisors in developing the day-to-day programming for a Camp Program.
- Ensure there are a variety activities in the summer camp program that targets the specific genre of the camp.
- Provide ongoing supervision and evaluation of the Camp Supervisors and Camp Counsellors.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to monitor the number of children registered in the Camp Programs and ensure the appropriate number of staff are working to meet the camper to staff ratios.
- Work with Camp Partnership programs to ensure all policies and procedures all followed.
- Ensure campers safety and security throughout the day.
- Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
- Regularly visit and interact with all camps within the assigned geographical area.
- Ensure the camp staff payroll is completed and submitted to the Program Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident, daily report, risk management) in a timely and accurate manner.
- Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
- Wear assigned uniform and name tag.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.
- Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.
- Maintain excellent public relations at all time, with staff and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High School DiplomaStandard First Aid and CPR C CertificationHigh Five CertificationRequired Skills / Knowledge
Team player.Superior organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines in a multitask environment.May be required to successfully complete the Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standardStrong written and verbal communication skills.Background knowledge in program planning including crafts, music, sports and games.Previous experience in a day camp setting, supervising staff and dealing directly with the public.Strong leadership, communication, organization and administrative skills.Computer skills, including working with Microsoft Office Suite and ActiveNetMust possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hireRequires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
