TRANSFORM HF is an Institutional Strategic Initiative created in joint partnership by the University of Toronto and the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, self-starter to communicate our vision of Digital Innovation for Heart Failure Care and manage programs dedicated to strengthening our community of engineers, scientists and clinicians who collaborate with Indigenous communities and patients to develop point-of-care diagnostics, wearables, and AI technologies. Together, we monitor and proactively treat people with heart failure in their homes and empower them to be more active in their own care.

Led by Dr. Craig Simmons, Distinguished Professor of Mechanobiology, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering and Dr. Heather Ross, Head of the Division of Cardiology and Loretta A. Rogers Chair in Heart Function at University Health Network, TRANSFORM HF crosses disciplines to innovate, collaborate and dramatically alter the management and trajectory of people with heart failure, bringing new innovations into clinical practice, creating new models of care and improving access to equitable high-quality care.

TRANSFORM HF’s cutting-edge training program – Translating Cardiovascular Remote Diagnostic & Monitoring Technologies for Health Equity (or CaRDM Eq) – will be a primary focus for this role. This NSERC-funded program is focused on designing cardiovascular diagnostic and monitoring devices for equity.

Your opportunity:

The Indigenous Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting our Indigenous heart health area of focus. They will coordinate research, training and other programmatic activities within our network as well as support our partnerships with First Nations health authorities and First Nations communities in northern Ontario. Work is grounded in cultural safety and our commitment to reconciliation. A key component of this role is the interaction with community members and partners, strengthening the linkages and collaborations and ensuring our work is guided by their interests and knowledges. The position is situated within the TRANSFORM HF team offices at University Health Network, with opportunity to spend time in community and engage in community-based activities tied to our research or program priorities. You will facilitate communication and outreach with Indigenous partners, coordinate program/research activities, identify opportunities to further enhance activities within our Indigenous heart health area of focus and support grant writing and reporting.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration
  • Promoting research initiatives to increase program visibility and reputation
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing program activities
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Writing grant applications, coordinating funding application processes
  • Creating and editing documents, drafting presentation materials
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Liaising with contacts to ensure consistent administration procedures are followed

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' of relevant experience in a combination of community outreach, research project management, and research grant administration, preferably in a university, or at an indigenous or non-profit organizations.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience grant writing and assisting in preparing the content of grant applications.
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience engaging and working with diverse populations through the application of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles to foster inclusive environments and dismantle systemic barriers.
  • Proven success in establishing relationships with community leaders and targeted individuals.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs and dynamics of different community-based research projects and be responsive to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Unit’s values of access, reciprocity, community engagement, social justice, and excellence in research.
  • Superior communication (oral, written and presentation) skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effective to a diverse range of audience.
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and produce results in high pressure situations and under tight timelines with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven relationship management, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to practice strong professionalism, tact, discretion, initiative, and sound judgment under pressure and stress.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial working environment.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience preparing content for research grants applications for community-based research would be considered a strong asset.
  • Cultural safety and Principles of OCAP training are a strong asset.
