Job description

Lead the shaping of industry-leading indigenous partnerships & the energy sector

At Hydro One, we believe meaningful partnerships with First Nations are built on trust, respect, shared prosperity, and a long-term commitment to action based economic reconciliation.
We are seeking a visionary and relationship-driven leader to join our Indigenous Partnerships & Business Development team as Director, Indigenous Partnerships – Operations & Governance. This role offers a unique opportunity to help steward some of Hydro One's most important and transformative partnerships while supporting Indigenous participation in major energy infrastructure projects across Ontario.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing Hydro One's First Nation Equity Partnership model, helping ensure that our commitments translate into lasting economic opportunities, strong governance, and mutually beneficial outcomes for First Nation partners and future generations.
This is more than a leadership role. It is an opportunity to contribute to a new way of working together, where partnerships are founded on respect, collaboration, and shared success.

About the role

Reporting to the Vice President, Indigenous Partnerships & Business Development, the Director, Indigenous Partnerships – Operations & Governance provides strategic leadership for Hydro One's growing portfolio of First Nation equity partnerships.

As the senior leader responsible for partnership governance, relationship stewardship, and operational performance, you will work closely with First Nation leadership, partner organizations, community representatives, and Hydro One business units to ensure partnerships remain strong, sustainable, and aligned with the priorities of all parties.

You will recognize that every First Nation is unique and will approach each relationship with humility, transparency, respect, and a genuine commitment to understanding community priorities, aspirations, and perspectives.

Success in this role is measured not only by financial and operational outcomes, but by the long-term value created for First Nation communities and Hydro One through trusted, enduring relationships.

The Director also leads a team of partnership professionals and serves as a critical connection point between First Nation partners and Hydro One's business units, helping ensure community perspectives, opportunities, concerns, and priorities are understood and reflected in decision-making.

What you'll be responsible for

Building and strengthening relationships

  • Serve as a trusted relationship leader for Hydro One's First Nation partnership portfolio.
  • Build, nurture, and sustain meaningful relationships with First Nation leaders, communities, economic development organizations, and business partners.
  • Support culturally respectful engagement and ensure Indigenous perspectives are incorporated into partnership governance and business decisions.
  • Help create an environment where partnerships are founded on transparency, accountability, collaboration, and shared prosperity.

Leading Partnership Governance and Performance

  • Provide strategic oversight of Hydro One's Indigenous partnership portfolio, including governance, operational performance, and long-term sustainability.
  • Represent Hydro One on partnership boards, governance committees, and other joint decision-making forums.
  • Lead the implementation and administration of partnership agreements and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure commitments made to First Nation partners are fulfilled and partnerships continue to deliver value over time.

Advancing Economic Reconciliation

  • Identify and support opportunities that strengthen Indigenous participation in Ontario's energy sector.
  • Work collaboratively with partners to advance economic benefits through investment, employment, procurement, and business development opportunities.
  • Support innovative approaches to Indigenous partnerships that contribute to Hydro One's leadership in economic reconciliation.

Strategic and Financial Leadership

  • Provide advice to senior leadership regarding partnership opportunities, risks, governance matters, and investment performance.
  • Oversee partnership planning, budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
  • Review financial models, business cases, investment analyses, and partnership economics to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure strong financial stewardship, transparency, and accountability across partnership structures.

Leading and Developing People

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team dedicated to partnership excellence.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and culturally safe work environment.
  • Build organizational capability in Indigenous partnership management, governance, and relationship stewardship.
  • Establish clear goals, priorities, and expectations while supporting employee growth and development.

What you bring

We're looking for an experienced leader who combines strong business acumen with exceptional relationship-building skills and a deep respect for Indigenous communities and cultures.

You may bring experience from Indigenous governments, economic development corporations, Indigenous-owned businesses, infrastructure organizations, utilities, financial institutions, private industry, or other complex partnership environments.

Qualifications & experience

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Law, Engineering, Public Administration, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and leadership experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, governments, organizations, or businesses.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating, structuring, and managing complex partnerships, joint ventures, equity investments, governance arrangements, or similar collaborative business models.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous economic development and partnership principles.
  • Experience working with boards, governance committees, and executive leadership teams.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including business planning, financial analysis, budgeting, investment evaluation, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and consensus-building skills.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and develop solutions that balance diverse interests.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.

Indigenous applicants

Hydro One recognizes the value of Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and leadership.

We strongly encourage applications from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis candidates. Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous and possess the skills, experience, and leadership qualities outlined in this posting are encouraged to apply.

We are committed to creating a culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace where Indigenous employees can thrive and contribute their perspectives, experiences, and leadership.

Why join Hydro One?

This role provides a rare opportunity to help shape one of the most significant Indigenous partnership portfolios in Canada's energy sector.

You will work alongside Indigenous leaders, communities, and Hydro One colleagues to create lasting value, strengthen relationships, and advance a future where economic reconciliation is achieved through meaningful partnership, shared decision-making, and shared prosperity.

Join us in building partnerships that create benefits for generations to come.
