We are currently seeking a Manager, Short-Term Disability Services to lead our growing Disability Management team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of our Short-Term Disability (STD) division, overseeing a team of Nurse Case Managers and Disability Coordinators while ensuring exceptional service delivery, operational performance, and quality outcomes for our clients.


What You'll Do

As the Manager, Short-Term Disability Services, you will:

  • Lead the daily operations of the Short-Term Disability department, ensuring efficient workflow management and high-quality service delivery.
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Nurse Case Managers and Disability Coordinators.
  • Monitor workloads, staffing levels, referral volumes, and operational capacity to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) and client expectations are consistently met.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, one-on-one meetings, and ongoing coaching to support employee development and engagement.
  • Oversee complex or high-risk disability cases, providing guidance and support to the team on challenging situations.
  • Monitor departmental performance using key operational metrics, including referral volumes, caseloads, claim durations, return-to-work outcomes, productivity, client satisfaction, and quality indicators.
  • Conduct quality assurance audits to ensure documentation accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and client requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, standardize processes, and implement operational efficiencies.
  • Participate in client meetings, business reviews, and service discussions while managing escalated client concerns professionally and effectively.
  • Support new client implementations, operational initiatives, and strategic projects.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, staffing utilization, and resource planning.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy legislation, disability management best practices, company policies, and contractual obligations.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of disability management experience.
  • Minimum three years of leadership or management experience.
  • Experience leading Nurse Case Managers, Disability Coordinators, or multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Strong understanding of short-term disability management, return-to-work planning, workplace accommodation, and employer-sponsored disability programs.
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards, Human Rights legislation, and disability management best practices.
  • Disability Management certification (CDMP, CCDP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using disability management systems and reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and client service.
