Job Category: Faculty - Clinical
Faculty/Division: Temerty Faculty of Medicine
Department: Dept of Obstetrics&Gynaecology
Hospital Affiliation: Sinai Health System
Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)
Existing Vacancy: Yes

Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine, along with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sinai Health, are seeking a full-time physician with subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) with a focus in Medical Disorders of Pregnancy. The successful candidate will be resourced to hold an academic position description of Clinician Educator (CE) and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the minimum rank of assistant professor at the University of Toronto. Applications from individuals at the higher ranks of associate professor or professor are welcome. The anticipated start date will be in Fall 2026, at a mutually agreeable date.

Sinai Health is a leader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prenatal Diagnosis and Medical Genetics and Neonatology, with one of the largest programs and services in Canada. It is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and is associated with the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, an internationally recognized research institute, where research in women’s and infants’ health forms a major component. The Prenatal Diagnosis and Medical Genetics Program is part of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Sinai Health and provides care for the full range of Medical Disorders of Pregnancy, Prenatal Diagnosis and Medical Genetics, Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy, Placental Disorders, Complex Obstetric Surgery, and Prevention of Prematurity. The Division services a metropolitan population of more than 6.5 million people and actively collaborates with pediatric subspecialties at The Hospital for Sick Children via the Ontario Fetal Centre.

The Division seeks to appoint an individual with clinical interest and skills in Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation and ongoing pregnancy care as appropriate through the Medical Disorders of Pregnancy Program. The clinical focus area will depend on the candidate’s interests and program needs. The successful individual will participate in the “Physician in Charge (PIC)” rota for the Antenatal Inpatient ward. This ward cares for ~1200 admissions per year for individuals experiencing obstetrical, medical and/or surgical complications during pregnancy and requiring active nursing and medical care. The PIC acts as a hospitalist role to provide ‘most responsible physician care’ responsible for co-ordinating care for the inpatients, providing mentorship and teaching for the nursing and medical teams, perform/read obstetrical ultrasound as required and provide liaison with ambulatory obstetrical and intra-partum care teams. They will also participate in the rota for Labour and Delivery on call coverage (day, night and weekend) and in the rota for obstetrical ultrasound review through the Centre For Excellence in Obstetrical Ultrasound (CEOU) in collaboration within the Joint Division of Medical Imaging.

In addition, the Division seeks to appoint an individual with a strong and proven commitment to education, education-related administration and scholarly activities related to education and knowledge translation. This individual will be responsible for the development, evaluation and renewal of educational curricula within the domain of Maternal Fetal Medicine. They are expected to assume leadership in the education of postgraduate trainees, graduate students, CE participants and/or faculty development. It is anticipated that this individual would assume administrative responsibilities related to academic and educational programs for trainees, faculty development and/or patients. This individual would contribute to the scholarly work with the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine based on clinical and/or research interests including but not exclusive to knowledge translation, education and simulation.

The successful candidate will dedicate ~20-30% of their time to their education-based activities to be supported by a salary stipend. The desirable qualities of the successful candidate would include an appropriate education focused graduate degree (MSc or greater).

The successful candidate will promote and demonstrate excellence in professional practices and conduct. Candidates must either be licensed or be eligible for an independent or restricted academic license, under the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Qualified applicants must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of MFM by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in MFM, in addition to the MD degree.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be placed in the Hospital Department Practice Plan with a minimum gross annual compensation of $250,000 – $300,000 (estimated based on fee-for-service billings). Applications will be accepted until September 30th, 2026, or until the position is filled.

Suitably qualified candidates are requested to apply with a specific letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the name of three referees/ three support letters via email to:
