About Us

The Baycrest Corporate Centre for Geriatric Care (BCCGC) serves as the corporate head office for the Baycrest Seniors Care family of companies, supporting our hospital, long-term care home, research centre, education programs and residential living communities. Job Summary

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist supports the development, administration, and continuous improvement of Baycrest’s benefits and compensation programs, ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.

Acting as a subject matter expert, the Specialist builds consultative and collaborative relationships with HR partners, operational leaders, and employees to support and enhance compensation and benefits initiatives. The role provides input into the compensation and benefits philosophy, vision, and strategy established by the HR leaders, and supports their effective implementation.

The Specialist is responsible for maintaining total rewards policies, programs, and processes, and for ensuring their consistent execution across Human Resources and Payroll functions. This position also serves as a key resource, delivering accurate and timely compensation and benefits information to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day administration of benefits and compensation programs. Serve as the escalation point for complex internal and external inquiries, providing expert guidance and recommendations. Ensure total rewards content is accurate and up to date on the intranet in collaboration with Communications.
  • Administer sick leave programs for all employees, including those eligible and ineligible for the Hospital of Ontario Disability Income Plan (HOODIP), in partnership with Occupational Health & Safety, HR Operations, managers, and employees.
  • Support and actively participate in the annual compensation cycle, including data analysis, report preparation, development of communication materials, and coordination with HR, Payroll, and leaders to ensure seamless execution.
  • Deliver high-quality analytics and insights by gathering, analyzing, and presenting data through regular and ad hoc reports and dashboards. Support collective bargaining activities through costing analysis, market benchmarking, and implementation of negotiated agreements.
  • Monitor market trends, conduct research, and develop recommendations to enhance total rewards programs, processes, and tools, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Coordinate and complete annual compensation and benchmarking surveys, including submissions for external organizations and internal unions to support market competitiveness and bargaining readiness.
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, including identifying opportunities to optimize costs, improve efficiency, and enhance plan design. Support the annual benefits renewal process through cost analysis, design evaluation, and communication development.
  • Support and maintain the job evaluation process, providing recommendations on job classifications, salary structures, and pay bands. Support implementation and communication of changes, ensuring internal equity and compliance with pay equity legislation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in compensation programs, supporting the design, implementation, and administration of initiatives such as pay equity, salary budgeting, job evaluation, market analysis, total rewards strategy development, and benchmarking.

Who You Are

  • A detail-oriented and highly analytical professional with strong organizational skills
  • A systems thinker with a continuous improvement mindset, able to identify efficiencies and enhance processes
  • Able to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative partner who builds strong relationships across HR and with internal stakeholders
  • Customer-focused, with a proactive approach to supporting and meeting the needs of internal and external clients
  • An effective communicator with excellent written, verbal, and active listening skills

Qualifications

  • University degree in Human Resources or a related discipline
  • CPP, CEBS, CHRP, or other HR professional certification (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, with strong overall technical aptitude
  • Experience using HRIS systems to extract, analyze, and manipulate data
  • Solid knowledge of compensation principles and practices, with strong analytical and statistical capabilities
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, and pension and benefits regulations

Compensation

At Baycrest, we take pride in ensuring our compensation structure is internally equitable and compliant with pay equity legislation. We believe compensation should be transparent, equitable, and reflective of your experience and growth. Our salary ranges are structured to support progression, from learning the role to demonstrating full proficiency.

For this position, the salary range is $74,654 to $93,318.

Your placement within the target hiring range will depend on your job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant education and experience, as well as considerations such as market conditions and internal equity. The starting salary will be determined using these factors to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization.
