Job description
Azure Database Architect

Location: Toronto, ON
Work Model: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time (FTE)

Required Experience
  • 12+ years of experience in Database Architecture, Cloud Migration, Database Modernization, and Enterprise Data Platform Design
  • Extensive experience designing and migrating enterprise databases to Microsoft Azure
  • Strong expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI), and SQL Server Architecture
  • Proven experience leading large-scale cloud transformation and database modernization initiatives
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and design enterprise-scale database solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Define database architecture strategies and recommend the optimal database platform (Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, Azure PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.) based on business and technical requirements.
  • Design migration strategies for legacy, hybrid, and cloud-native applications.
  • Lead migrations from SQL Server, Oracle, and legacy databases to Azure cloud platforms.
  • Develop modernization roadmaps for transitioning monolithic applications to cloud-native and microservices architectures.
  • Define enterprise standards for High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), Backup, Security, Governance, and Performance Optimization.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, technical assessments, and mentor development and database engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with Application Architects, Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, and Business stakeholders.
  • Assess application dependencies and recommend Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, or Rebuild migration strategies.
  • Evaluate business, cost, security, availability, and performance requirements to recommend optimal cloud database solutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)
  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and DevOps practices
