Role: Tandem / Java Specialist

Location: Toronto / Halifax (Nova Scotia)

Key Responsibilities

Application Support & Development

• Provide Level 2/Level 3 support for critical Capital Markets, Treasury, Payments Processing, Settlement, and Reconciliation applications running on HPE NonStop (HP NonStop) platforms.
• Perform hands-on development, enhancement, troubleshooting, and maintenance of ATLAS applications.
• Ensure the stability, availability, and performance of business-critical transaction processing systems in a high-availability environment.
• Analyse and resolve production incidents, service disruptions, and application performance issues within defined SLAs.
• Collaborate with business users, operations teams, architects, and engineering teams to identify and implement application and infrastructure improvements.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures to minimise recurring incidents.
• Support application deployments, releases, and environment upgrades across Development, Testing, and Production environments.

HPE NonStop Platform Administration & Support

• Administer and support HPE NonStop systems, ensuring high availability and operational resilience.
• Utilise TACL, FUP, SCF, OSS, SQL/MP, SQL/MX, and Enscribe databases for system administration, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation.
• Monitor system health, capacity, and performance of NonStop environments.
• Support DSM/SCM activities, including software deployment, version control, and change management.
• Work with SS&HW teams to maintain operating system currency and implement recommended HPE NonStop SPRs and critical patches.
• Participate in infrastructure maintenance, system upgrades, hardware refreshes, and disaster recovery activities.

Database & Storage Management

• Support database creation, configuration, maintenance, and optimisation.
• Manage SQL/MX, SQL/MP, and Enscribe database environments to ensure data integrity, availability, and performance.
• Assist in implementing database replication and synchronisation solutions across NonStop and external environments.
• Support storage planning, disk sizing, backup strategies, data retention, recovery testing, and restoration activities.
• Coordinate with infrastructure and automation teams for storage housekeeping and Saveabend file management.

Communications & Middleware Support

• Support and maintain communication subsystems and network connectivity within the NonStop environment.
• Configure and troubleshoot SSH, SSL, and secure communication protocols.
• Manage and support IBM WebSphere MQ for NonStop integrations and message flows.
• Support Secure DPS (comForte) configurations and secure transaction processing requirements.
• Collaborate with network and security teams to ensure reliable connectivity and compliance.

Monitoring, Automation & Operations

• Support the implementation and maintenance of monitoring and alerting solutions.
• Configure and maintain automated batch processing, job scheduling, and operational workflows.
• Partner with automation and monitoring teams to enhance operational visibility and incident detection.
• Participate in infrastructure and application health reviews and capacity planning activities.

Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with PCI and organisational security standards.
• Support implementation of security controls, access management, encryption standards, and audit requirements.
• Participate in vulnerability remediation, compliance reviews, and security assessments.

Development & Integration

• Develop and maintain utilities, scripts, and automation solutions using Java and Python within the OSS environment.
• Support integration of NonStop applications with enterprise platforms and external systems.
• Contribute to application modernisation and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with business stakeholders to understand operational requirements and resolve production issues.
• Work closely with architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and vendor teams to deliver support and enhancement initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to junior team members and operations staff.
• Prepare technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.

On-Call & Operational Support

• Participate in 24x7 production support rotations, including evenings, weekends, and on-call coverage.
• Support Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
• Ensure rapid response and recovery for high-priority business incidents impacting critical payment and treasury operations.
