The Vice President (VP), Enterprise Strategy, Canadian Banking is a senior-level role within Scotiabank’s Enterprise Strategy group, a central team focused on shaping the Bank’s strategic agenda and driving the design, execution, and ongoing management of Scotiabank’s enterprise strategic planning process.

Reporting to the SVP, Enterprise Strategy, the VP will support the Canadian Banking portfolio and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, helping articulate and advance business line strategy in alignment with the Bank’s highest-level priorities. The VP will lead a high-performing team, cultivate partnerships across the Bank, support transformational initiatives, and provide strategic insight on key priorities impacting Canadian Banking and the broader enterprise.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Manage and drive the content of the Business Line and/or Function strategy planning process with the Board and Executive Management, ensuring alignment to the Bank’s strategic process and requirements.
  • Develop the strategic planning framework and facilitate the annual strategy development process for the assigned Business Line and/or Corporate Function, with specific focus on Canadian Banking.
  • Develop long-term strategy and vision aligned to business outcomes, connecting priorities across the enterprise to clearly articulate a unified story for Scotiabank.
  • Identify investment themes based on emerging trends, competitive benchmarks, customer needs, and business priorities, while building the case for strategic change.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across business lines, corporate functions, and Strategy teams to remove barriers and support execution of strategic initiatives that drive organizational growth, profitability, and improved customer experience.
  • Lead the development, design, and oversight of appropriate processes, structures, and metrics to monitor progress against the Bank’s strategy and support execution of key initiatives.
  • Perform annual assessments of relevant business line and enterprise priorities, including Scotiabank’s positioning relative to local and global peers, to develop a transparent view of opportunities, challenges, and strategic trade-offs.
  • Manage competitive and business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends, and analyze the implications of those trends on the Bank’s strategic plan.
  • Lead transformation, strategy development, and execution for the relevant Business Line and/or Corporate Function, ensuring key strategic initiatives are actively managed.
  • Develop and upgrade strategy capabilities across the organization by enhancing team skillsets, supporting talent development, and partnering with central Strategy teams, business lines, and corporate functions.
  • Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Business or a similar discipline; MBA or similar post-graduate education is preferred.
  • 10-15 years of relevant work experience in strategy within the financial services industry and/or top-tier strategy consulting.
  • Prior banking experience is an asset; experience supporting retail, commercial, Canadian Banking, or other customer-facing banking businesses is considered highly relevant.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect enterprise priorities to business line outcomes and practical execution plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior executives, including experience preparing materials and presentations for senior management, executive management, the President and CEO, and/or the Board of Directors.
  • Experience leading complex operational and strategic initiatives across a large, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and lead a team of strategy professionals.
  • Advanced strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities, combined with sound business judgment.
  • Strong knowledge of banking, financial services, markets, competitors, emerging propositions, global best practices, and risk management practices.
  • Well-developed knowledge of risk, capital planning, and financial modelling.
  • Proven ability to drive and manage change with a strong results focus.
  • Highly developed written, verbal communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is an asset.
