Bilingual Communications Lead (English/French)

Full-time Permanent

Position Overview

The Bilingual Communications Lead will play a key role in developing and executing strategic communications initiatives that advance FP Canada's mission of championing better financial wellness for all Canadians by leading the advancement of professional financial planning in Canada. Through compelling storytelling and comprehensive campaigns, the Bilingual Communications Lead will help to strengthen FP Canada’s reputation as the leader in professional financial planning in Canada. This new role requires an excellent writer and a creative, strategic communicator who is fluent in both English and French.

Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Bilingual Communications Lead will manage one direct report and effectively manage multiple projects, collaborate across teams, and deliver compelling content that resonates with diverse audiences in both official languages. The Bilingual Communications Lead will monitor trends and developments, measure the effectiveness of communications, and translate insights into continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Strategic Communications

  • Support the development and implementation of comprehensive communications strategies aligned with organizational goals
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of integrated campaigns that raise awareness of the value of professional financial planning
  • Create compelling, audience-appropriate content in English and French across multiple channels
  • Ensure brand and style consistency in both languages, monitor communications trends, industry developments and stakeholder sentiment to inform strategy
  • Monitor the effectiveness of communications, prepare regular performance reports, and develop a communications dashboard to support continuous improvement

Account Management/Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary communications liaison for the Fintellect Initiative, the Canadian Foundation for Financial Planning (CFFP), and the FP Canada Standards Council (enforcement)
  • Develop and execute tailored communications strategies and plans for projects and initiatives, as required. Lead production and rollout of the FP Canada Standards Council Annual Report
  • Contribute to the planning, promotion and execution of events such as FP Canada’s annual Financial Planning Conference
  • Coordinate translation services for Marketing & Communications Team when required, and ensure quality and accuracy of translated materials

Media and Public Relations

  • Help maintain relationships with media contacts and support media outreach, inquiries, and interview preparation in collaboration with the Manager, Communications
  • Prepare media briefs, optimize news release distribution, monitor media coverage and report on earned media results

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • University degree or College diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or a related field
  • Minimum seven years of progressive communications experience, preferably in a professional association, non-profit, or financial services environment
  • Experience working within asset management/financial services industry
  • Fluent in English and French (both verbal and written), with exceptional bilingual writing, editing, and storytelling skills and the ability to explain complex topics clearly and adapt tone to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively with senior executives
  • Experience in working with agencies and external contractors preferred
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing direct reports preferred

  • Experience in content writing, demonstrated media relations expertise, the ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholder relationships
  • Strong project management and research skills, a self-starter, creative problem solver with a growth mindset
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, collaborative approach with excellent interpersonal skills

FP Canada employs over 80 people, and our office is located in downtown Toronto. This is a full-time permanent position working 5 days per week, during core business hours, with some flexibility required. We offer a hybrid-work model, requiring at a minimum, two days a week (40%) on average, of employees’ time be spent in the office. This hybrid position is based in Toronto; however, we welcome applications from qualified candidates across Canada who are seeking a fully remote arrangement.

Additional information

This position is a newly created role within our organization.

Salary based on experience, ranging from $90,000 to $95,000.
