Job description

WHO IS RATEHUB?

We're a company on a mission. We are a unique Canadian Fintech that is the one-stop shop for all financial needs of the consumer: Save, Spend, Borrow, Invest, and Protect. Every single team member - from Product & Engineering to Sales & Marketing, Finance, Operations, and everything in between - is obsessed with one thing: helping Canadians make better financial choices. And we're pretty great at it, too. Via our digital application technology and our award-winning in-house brokerages, we help over 2M Canadians per month make a positive impact on their finances.

We have many unique businesses: a mortgage brokerage, a life insurance brokerage, a home and auto insurance brokerage, a mortgage originations and servicing business, a Financial Services Marketplace, and a content business across Ratehub and MoneySense. 365 days a year, we deliver our users the best online mortgage experience, personalised credit card and loan options, and cheaper auto and home insurance policies than they typically get from their existing financial adviser.

Changing how people make financial choices isn't easy, though. We know that achieving our mission is full of challenges - challenges that can be complex and often unexpected but that are always interesting, rewarding, and fun to solve as a team. This is where you come in. We are on the hunt for the right candidate to join us and help lead us forward to continued growth.

We're looking for a Senior Editor, Mortgage Lead to join our Mortgages Business Unit team at the organisation. The ideal candidate will be the Ratehub SME for mortgages and real estate, develop and execute on an editorial strategy that strengthens the company's position in the space, and serve as the Ratehub voice for industry related media interviews and video content. Although headquartered in downtown Toronto, Ratehub is a remote-first company and as such, we're open to remote candidates.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mortgage Content Expertise

  • Serve as Ratehub's primary subject matter expert for mortgages and real estate
  • Develop content that provides unique analysis and insights and reflects current market conditions, rate movements, and consumer needs - not just evergreen education
  • Strengthen Ratehub's authority in the mortgage space by producing/writing exceptional, accurate, and timely original content across formats including media contributions, landing pages, blog posts, newsletters, videos, and social media
  • Support the Communications team with expert commentary, data points, and timely insights for media pitches
  • Liaise regularly with Ratehub's mortgage team to stay current on rate trends, lender strategy, and market shifts, and translate those insights into timely content updates
  • Maintain and refresh existing content on an ongoing basis - including blogs, FAQs, and landing pages - leveraging internal resources, French translators, and freelancers where appropriate
  • Incorporate SEO and GEO best practices into all content, with particular rigour on landing pages and high-traffic pages

Editorial Strategy & Leadership

  • Set, document, and uphold Ratehub's editorial voice and style standards across all formats, channels, and contributors
  • Establish and maintain editorial policies, workflows, and governance frameworks that scale across staff writers, freelancers, and cross-functional contributors
  • Own and manage the editorial and social media calendar, balancing timely rate and market coverage with long-term content strategy and ensuring that all published content meets accuracy, compliance, and regulatory standards relevant to Canadian financial products
  • Review, edit, and approve work from writers, freelancers, and subject matter experts to maintain a consistently high editorial bar
  • Develop and maintain deep expertise in Canadian personal finance - mortgage rates, insurance, credit cards, banking, and investing - to provide credible editorial oversight
  • Own content QA processes, including fact-checking, link auditing, structural reviews, and scheduled content refreshes
  • Use performance data - organic traffic, keyword rankings, GEO metrics, engagement, and conversion signals - to inform editorial priorities and identify content gaps
  • Brief, onboard, and manage freelance contributors, including scope definition, quality oversight, and feedback
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, and data teams to ensure content reflects live product and rate information accurately
  • Serve as the lead on sponsored content production, acting as the primary point of contact between the external partnership team and the content team

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience & Education

  • 6-10 years of editorial experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in personal finance content, with a strong preference for candidates with a mortgage or real estate focus
  • Experience working in a digital-first media environment, fintech, financial services, or a high-volume content operation
  • Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, English, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience

Editorial & Writing

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to make complex financial topics clear and compelling for a Canadian consumer audience
  • Deep familiarity with Canadian mortgage products, rate structures, lending regulations, and the broader real estate landscape strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of content across multiple formats simultaneously - articles, landing pages, newsletters, social, and video scripts
  • Strong command of Canadian AP or CP style, with experience developing and maintaining in-house style guides

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Experience mentoring content writers/strategists, with a track record of raising the quality of a team's output
  • Skilled at briefing and managing freelance contributors, including providing clear, constructive editorial feedback
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, product, and analytics teams

  • Strong relationships within Canadian financial media or journalism circles an asset

Tools & Platforms

  • Proficiency with a CMS (WordPress or similar), project management tools (Asana, Notion, or similar), and standard editorial collaboration tools
  • Experience with AI writing and editing tools, and a thoughtful perspective on how to use them responsibly in an editorial context

CULTURE FIT

  • Members first - we prioritise the interests and needs of our members above all else.We solve member pain points and focus on member satisfaction. We start with members, and end with the P&L
  • Growth mindset - we set ambitious goals and challenge the status quo. We take responsible risks and are accountable for our actions
  • Better together - we are One team with One common goal. We make our footprint bigger than our foot, leave our egos at the door, support each other to achieve great results as One company.
  • Run after problems - we tackle problems head on and focus on finding solutions. Obstacles are seen as opportunities for growth and innovation. We have the hard conversations and choose the harder right over the easier wrong. And we do it with a smile
  • Measure Learn Iterate Innovate - we focus on getting things done. We measure what matters, iterate, learn, iterate many times in a data-driven way, which is how we will innovate

JOB PERKS

  • Competitive Compensation: A salary that reflects your experience and the Canadian market
