What You Will Do


You will be responsible for the management of communications projects; overall administration and editorial direction of corporate publications and communications; and provision of communications plans and strategies that enhance corporate image and relations with internal and external audiences. As the Senior Communications Advisor you will support the TTC’s external communications and media relations function, focusing on reactive and proactive communication with the media and other key audiences.


You will also provide communication advice, media preparation, and counsel to internal clients, senior management, and executives, prepare issue notes and briefing notes; write and disseminate media material; plan and execute media events; and develop key messages when acting as TTC spokesperson. You will be expected to establish and maintain Toronto media networks and good working relationships, including mainstream media, bloggers and transit advocates.


In addition to the above, you will support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?


  • Completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public/Media Relations, or the equivalent, combined with several years of directly related work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of communications, journalism and public relations concepts, principles and techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of the corporate communications field
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Must possess sound judgement and the ability to exercise discretion and sensitivity; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish effective internal/external working relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong planning and organizational skills to co-ordinate multiple projects from concept to execution and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office combined with applied knowledge of desktop design, publication/production/presentation software and new technologies, digital and social media communications and print, television and/or radio production.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work while meeting stringent deadlines.
  • Must possess ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
