Job description

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking a Manager, Strategic Initiatives & Governance. We have one permanent position available to start immediately.

About RECO

As Ontario’s regulator of more than 110,000 real estate agents and brokerages (often referred to as registrants), RECO administers and enforces the law that regulates trading in real estate in Ontario and enhances consumer confidence in the real estate services sector. RECO’s commitment to pursuing trust in every transaction means consumers can navigate the real estate market with confidence.

A modern regulator with approximately 170 employees, RECO is a collegial and dynamic environment where strategic agility, curiosity and empathy are valued.

Hybrid work environment

RECO has a ‘hybrid’ environment, which typically includes a minimum attendance in the office of two days per week, with some teams/positions requiring more frequent in-office attendance.

RECO’s commitment to diversity and inclusion: They aren’t just words to us!

RECO is committed to promoting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment that includes awareness, education, and engagement-building opportunities for all employees.

The role

Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Corporate Officer (“CSCO”), the Manager, Strategic Initiatives & Governance is responsible for managing day-to-day coordination of RECO’s governance and Board affairs function and provides enterprise-wide coordination of transformation initiatives, corporate planning and reporting, and corporate policy processes.

Working closely with the CEO, executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and leaders across RECO, the Manager maintains consolidated reporting on enterprise initiatives and corporate priorities, identifies dependencies, sequencing requirements, and emerging risks, and provides analysis, advice, and organizational follow-through to support effective execution and decision-making. The role oversees the Board Administrator and manages selected enterprise-wide initiatives and special projects.

Position responsibilities

  • Coordinates RECO’s portfolio of transformation initiatives, working across the organization with executive sponsors and initiative leads to support alignment, effective planning, and organizational follow-through.
  • Maintains an integrated view of significant initiatives, milestones, dependencies, sequencing requirements, risks, and issues and coordinates consolidated reporting to support effective executive oversight.
  • Monitors progress against agreed commitments, identifies competing priorities and emerging delivery risks, and provides timely analysis, constructive challenge, and recommendations to the CSCO, CEO, and ELT.
  • Promotes alignment between transformation initiatives, RECO’s Strategic Plan, Business Plan, corporate scorecard, and organizational priorities.
  • Manages selected enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and special projects assigned by the CSCO or CEO.

Corporate Planning, Performance & Policy

  • Coordinates RECO’s corporate planning, performance management, and reporting processes, including the Business Plan, Annual Report, corporate scorecard, and other key corporate deliverables.
  • Supports the implementation and reporting of RECO’s Strategic Plan and alignment between strategic priorities, corporate plans, performance measures, and organizational commitments.
  • Supports the corporate scorecard process, including quarterly reporting, quality assurance of organizational updates, identification of emerging risks and dependencies, and consolidated reporting to executive leadership and the Board.
  • Maintains an integrated corporate planning and reporting calendar and supports coordination of significant organizational commitments, priorities, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates RECO’s corporate policy framework, inventory, standards, and review cycle, working with accountable business areas that retain responsibility for policy content and implementation.

Executive Coordination & Leadership

  • Coordinates SLT planning and meetings in support of the CEO and ELT, including forward agendas, materials, decisions, action tracking, and organizational follow-through.
  • Supports executive leaders, Board members, and leaders across RECO to support coordination of enterprise priorities, coordinate information and reporting, and organizational decision-making.
  • Prepares executive briefings, analyses, presentations, and decision materials and prepares analysis and recommendations for consideration by the CSCO on significant corporate priorities and emerging organizational issues.
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management to employees assigned to the function and establishes priorities, workplans, standards, and expectations.
  • Exercises sound judgment, political acuity, discretion, and diplomacy in managing complex, sensitive, and confidential matters and manages external advisors and service providers, as assigned.
  • Directly supervises the Board Administrator, providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, performance management, work planning, and oversight of governance and Board administration activities.

Qualifications and experience

  • University degree in business, public administration, governance, law, political science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate planning, governance, strategic initiative coordination, organizational performance, corporate policy, or related functions.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complex enterprise initiatives and corporate priorities involving multiple executives and business areas.
  • Experience providing corporate planning, performance reporting, governance, strategic initiatives, or comparable enterprise-wide processes.
  • Demonstrated experience advising and working with senior executives, Boards of Directors, or governance bodies on complex organizational matters.
  • Experience leading employees and providing direction, coaching, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate planning and performance management, project and portfolio management practices, corporate governance, and Board operations.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, organizational judgment, political acuity, executive communication, relationship management, and influencing skills; experience in a regulatory, public sector, broader public sector, Crown agency, administrative authority, or similarly complex environment is considered a strong asset.
