Are you an ambitious self-starter and collaborative team player who is passionate about local news and current events? You are deeply connected to communities across the GTA and have a passion for sharing their stories. You understand current trends in news programming on mobile and streaming platforms - as well as tradition broadcast platforms. You excel at multitasking and know how to prioritize multiple stories and tasks. You thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The position is a part time weekend role that requires on-site presence at the Toronto Broadcast Centre. We are hiring several other jobs in southern Ontario. You can see them all here.

  • Edit video and audio.
  • Write quick, accurate stories in breaking news situations, as needed.

Candidate Requirements

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent with at least 2 years of practical and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated solid news judgment and a strong understanding of the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Extensive experience working in an assignment role.
  • Strong contributor of story, guest and treatment ideas.
  • The ability to plan ahead and help effectively organize news coverage for multiple platforms.
  • High level of organization and productivity.
  • Strong & enthusiastic team player with good communication skills.
  • Initiative taker, with ability to be productive in individual and team settings.
  • Comfort and fluency with a variety of editing and publishing tools (Dalet, Avid, 9CMS, etc).
  • Able to work flexible hours.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
