Job description

Overview

The Toronto Regional Real Estate Board is seeking high-performing candidates to join its Professional Standards team, one of the most critical functions within the organization.

This role provides direct exposure to:

  • Regulatory compliance and enforcement
  • Administrative law processes
  • Professional discipline and dispute resolution
  • Governance and policy application within a large, complex organization

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced professionals responsible for addressing member-to-member disputes, professional standards infractions, and maintaining the integrity of one of North America’s largest Multiple Listing Services (MLS®), supporting over 70,000 REALTORS® across the Greater Toronto Area.

What You’ll Work On

This is not a passive placement as candidates will be embedded in real workflows and contribute meaningfully to active files.

Investigations & Case Support

  • Assist in reviewing and organizing complaint files related to Member conduct
  • Support investigations by compiling, analyzing, and structuring evidence, documentation, and timelines
  • Conduct research on applicable rules, policies, and regulatory frameworks to inform case assessments

Hearings & Dispute Resolution (Elevated)

  • Support the preparation of materials for Arbitration and Professional Standards Hearings including Allegation Statements
  • Attend hearings and assist in documenting proceedings and preparing structured summaries of Hearing Panel decisions
  • Present case materials on behalf of the organization in discipline matters, as appropriate
  • Coordinate hearing panels, including scheduling, logistics, and comprehensive case file preparation

Regulatory & Policy Application

  • Apply TRREB By-Laws and Policies, MLS® Rules, and professional standards frameworks to real-world scenarios
  • Assist in interpreting regulatory requirements from bodies such as the Real Estate Council of Ontario and Canadian Real Estate Association
  • Support the development of internal guidance and responses to Member inquiries

Data, Reporting & Insights

  • Maintain and organize compliance and case data in a structured and accurate manner
  • Support the preparation of reports for senior leadership and Board-level review
  • Identify trends and insights related to complaints, compliance issues, and MLS® data quality

Operational & Strategic Projects

  • Assist in documenting procedures and improving internal workflows and processes
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of training materials and process manuals
  • Support special projects related to governance, compliance modernization, and policy updates

What You’ll Gain

This placement is designed as a pipeline into regulatory, legal, and policy careers.

You will gain:

  • Exposure to real world administrative law and quasi-judicial processes
  • Hands-on experience with investigations, hearings, and dispute resolution
  • Understanding of how large-scale regulatory frameworks operate in practice
  • Direct interaction with professionals, panel members, and leadership
  • Experience working with highly confidential, complex case material

Who You Are

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong judgement, critical thinking, curiosity, and professionalism.

Core Capabilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Comfort working in structured, rules-based environments

What Makes This Placement Different

  • Most co-op roles are administrative. This one is not.

You will:

  • Work on real cases, not simulations
  • Gain exposure to decision making processes and governance structures
  • Develop skills directly transferable to:
  • Law school
  • Regulatory agencies
  • Corporate compliance
  • Public administration

Career Pathways

Candidates who succeed in this role typically pursue careers in:

  • Regulatory bodies and tribunals
  • Legal and paralegal professions
  • Corporate compliance and risk
  • Government and public policy
  • Professional associations and governance roles

Application Process

Please submit a current resume and cover letter outlining your interest in this role and any related academic or professional experience.

Only selected candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process.
