Job description

Our Commitment to Students

At Canadian Tire, we are committed to providing students with a supportive and collaborative environment that fosters knowledge sharing and offers key experiences to help them develop their capabilities through projects and objectives. We believe in setting specific and measurable goals that align with our business objectives to support learning and help students achieve their full potential. Our culture emphasizes learning from others, continuous improvement, agility, growth, and innovation, and we are invested in building a talented, diverse workforce for the future of Canada and Canadian Tire. Additionally, we are dedicated to building strong relationships with our student employees by engaging with them throughout their education and career pursuits and creating opportunities for ongoing communication and relationship building.

What you’ll do

We are looking for a curious, analytical student to help us streamline and standardize how work flows through our Atlassian platform. Our Jira environment has accumulated a large number of custom workflows over time, creating complexity, inconsistency, and maintenance overhead. Your mission is to dig into the system, understand how these workflows were built, document them, identify patterns, and recommend a consolidated model — with a target of reducing the many workflows in production down to four standard workflow types. This is a hands‑on, self‑directed role ideal for a student who enjoys investigating systems, spotting patterns, and translating complexity into clear visuals and recommendations. You will work independently and deliver your analysis and process maps primarily in Lucidchart.

Discover

Investigate and reverse‑engineer existing Jira workflows across boards and projects to understand how they were configured, including statuses, transitions, conditions, validators, and post‑functions.

Document

Create clear, accurate current‑state (as‑is) process maps and workflow documentation in Lucidchart.

Analyze

Analyze the full inventory of production workflows to identify commonalities, redundancies, and patterns that can be consolidated.

Rationalize

Design a proposed future‑state model that reduces production workflows to four standard workflow types, with clear rationale and mapping from old to new.

Recommend

Provide practical, prioritized recommendations for consolidation, standardization, and cleanup, including risks and considerations for migration.

Present

Share findings and visuals with the BSA Practice and IT Operations stakeholders in a clear, easy‑to‑follow format.

What you bring

  • Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Technology Management, or a related discipline).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to break down complex systems and spot patterns.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage your own time, and drive a project forward with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable building process flows and diagrams in Lucidchart (or a strong ability to learn quickly).
  • Clear written and visual communication for documenting processes and recommendations.
  • Curiosity and persistence to dig into a system, ask questions, and understand the “why” behind how things were built.
  • Exposure to Jira and Confluence (as a user or administrator), including familiarity with workflow concepts (statuses, transitions, workflow schemes) an asset.
  • Understanding of business analysis or process improvement concepts (e.g., BPMN, workflow standardization, Lean thinking) an asset.

Benefits

  • Career growth opportunities and product discounts.
  • Broadband Salary Range: $23.00 - $37.00 CAD hourly.
  • Our typical hiring range is between $23.00 and $30.00 hourly. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role‑specific requirements. We're committed to attracting top talent. For critical roles, the compensation offering will be reviewed to ensure alignment with market rate and conditions and the unique value you bring to the role.
  • As part of our enhanced flex benefits program, we offer mental health benefits in the amount of $5,000 per year for benefits‑eligible employees and their families, including total well‑being, and mental health tools and resources for all employees.

We may use artificial intelligence tools as part of our recruitment process to assist in the initial screening of resumes. All hiring decisions, including candidate evaluation, selection, and disposition, are made by human recruiters.

If you’re ready to take on new challenges – be it in digital, IT, marketing, data & analytics, merchandising, or one of the many other roles we have – there is a place for you here,
