Job description

Liberty Horizons is the future of accounting for small businesses. We pair talented onshore accountants with the right business owner clients to provide a white-glove service that has not been provided in the small business accounting industry. We do this through a tech-enabled approach that allows accounting professionals to provide the highest quality and fastest turnaround of accounting, bookkeeping, fractional controller, and fractional CFO services to an underserved market of small business owners.

We are a small team with high standards. That means real ownership, real exposure, and real growth opportunities for the right person. If you want to own a function, work directly alongside senior leadership, and build something that matters to the businesses you serve, this is the right environment for you.

About the Role

You are joining a relatively new sales function at Liberty Horizons. You are part of the team building our go-to-market program from the ground up, working directly with the existing team to define how we sell, who we sell to, and how we scale.

This is a build-from-zero role designed for entrepreneurial-minded financial services professionals. You will source your own leads, run your own outbound, close your own deals, own the onboarding handoff, and then keep that client long-term: managing the relationship, protecting retention, driving referrals, and expanding the account over time.

This role is designed for professionals who have already succeeded in a build-your-own-book model within financial services, such as wealth management, investment brokerage, insurance brokerage, or FX dealing, and who understand the discipline required to grow a self-generated book over time. Just as importantly, this role is for people who are genuinely energized by startup ambiguity: building process while executing, adapting quickly as the model evolves, and helping shape the sales function rather than simply operating within one.

You will also have access to company-generated leads when available. Working these accounts is encouraged and compensated, but it will not move the needle on your core target. Your number is built on what you generate yourself.

Responsibilities

Lead Generation & Outbound

  • Build and execute your own outbound pipeline from scratch: cold calling, networking, and multi-channel outreach.
  • Qualify Ideal Client Profile (ICP) prospects independently.
  • Track activity (dials, conversations, meetings) with discipline inside the CRM.
  • Own the complete sales cycle: outreach -> discovery -> proposal -> close -> onboarding.
  • Run consultative discovery calls to diagnose real financial and operational pain points for founders.
  • Build and defend tailored scopes of work, articulating ROI rather than listing services.
  • Own the transition from signed deal to onboarded client, ensuring a clean start.

Relationship Management & Retention

  • Own the end-to-end client relationship post-onboarding: regular check-ins and proactive communication.
  • Monitor client health signals and intervene early to prevent churn.
  • Build trust-based relationships that make Liberty Horizons indispensable to each client's operations.

Revenue Generation & Referrals

  • Identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts (additional services, scope increases).
  • Actively generate referrals from your client book.
  • Track revenue generated from self-sourced accounts separately from company-generated accounts.

Collections & Financial Hygiene

  • Manage collections for your portfolio, resolving overdue balances professionally.
  • Maintain clean, accurate billing status across all assigned accounts.
  • Set clear expectations with clients around scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Handle escalations directly, protecting both the client relationship and the firm's standards.
  • Know when to solve a problem independently versus looping in leadership.

Change Orders & Scope Management

  • Lead conversations around change orders and SOW updates when client needs evolve.
  • Price and scope changes fairly, protecting margin while keeping the relationship intact.
  • Flag scope creep before it becomes a financial or delivery problem
  • Maintain real-time data integrity in the CRM: every interaction and revenue change logged instantly.
  • Coordinate closely with the delivery team for a seamless client experience.
  • Share client feedback and relationship insights with leadership.

Building the Function

  • Contribute directly to shaping our sales process and tooling as one of the earliest people in this function.
  • Operate comfortably without a fully built-out playbook, and help create one as you go.

What an A-Player Looks Like in This Role

  • Builder Mentality: You don't wait for leads, or for someone else to hand you a process. You create both.
  • Startup Comfort: You are energized, not stressed, by ambiguity. You'd rather shape a new function than inherit a mature one.
  • Relentless Relationship Builder: You treat every client interaction as an opportunity to deepen trust, not just close out a task.
  • Radical Ownership: You own your pipeline and your book completely. When things go sideways, you bring data on what happened and a plan to fix it, never an excuse.
  • Commercial Instinct: You can spot an expansion opportunity or a churn risk before it shows up in the numbers.
  • Extreme Integrity: You protect our brand reputation. You never overpromise scope, oversell just to hit a number, or underprice a change order just to keep a client happy in the moment.

Who This Role Is For

  • A financial services professional with a proven track record of building a self-generated book in wealth management, investment brokerage, insurance brokerage, FX dealing, or a similar commission-based, relationship-driven environment.
  • Someone who has lived the build-your-own-book model and understands the discipline, patience, and compounding nature of the work.
  • Someone who is genuinely excited to join a new sales team at an early-stage company, and who wants to help define the function rather than step into a fully built one.
  • A self-motivated builder who genuinely enjoys both the hunt (lead gen and closing) and the harvest (retention, referrals, expansion).
  • An organized executioner who values CRM cleanliness and uses data to manage a growing pipeline and portfolio without dropping details.

Who This Role Is Not For

  • Someone who inherited a book of business rather than building it from scratch, or whose success depended on warm leads or a corporate brand to open doors.
  • Someone who needs a mature, fully documented sales process to feel comfortable.
  • Someone who struggles with CRM discipline or finds tracking a pipeline tedious.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • 5+ years of experience in a build-your-own-book role within financial services: wealth management, investment brokerage, insurance brokerage, FX dealing, or similar.
  • Documented track record of generating your own leads, closing your own deals, and earning on a book you personally built.
  • Experience owning client relationships post-sale, including retention, collections, or account growth.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; comfort navigating both sales conversations and difficult client escalations.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing a high-volume pipeline and client portfolio without dropping details.
  • Demonstrated comfort operating in ambiguous, early-stage, or fast-changing environments.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with accounting, bookkeeping, tax, or fractional CFO terminology.
  • Experience selling professional advisory services directly to founders, CEOs, or small business owners.
  • Experience managing change orders or Statements of Work (SOW) in a services business.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms used to track pipeline, client health, and revenue.
  • Prior experience joining an early-stage company or building a function from the ground up.

What We Offer

  • $80,000 to $100,000 CAD Base Salary (calibrated against experience).
  • Ongoing Trailing Commission on your book of business.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits package.
  • Dedicated professional development allowance.
  • The opportunity to shape a sales function from its earliest days, with outsized influence on process, tooling, and strategy.
  • A transparent career path toward client success leadership or strategic growth roles as the firm expands.
  • A high-standard culture where your output is directly visible and heavily rewarded.

The Hiring Process

This process is deliberate. We are selective because the standard matters, to us and to our clients.

  • Application & Culture Pre-Screen: Review of your written submission, including specific alignment questions.
  • Screening Interview: A 45-minute video evaluation of your build-your-own-book background, core values, and communication style.
  • Hiring Manager Interview: A deep dive into your historical performance data: pipeline generation, closing rates, retention metrics, and book growth trajectory.
  • The Gauntlet: A multi-stage practical assessment where you will demonstrate live discovery, proposal building, and escalation handling.
  • Reference Checks: A mandatory evaluation via a minimum of two professional references, including at least one direct former manager who can speak to your self-generated results.

Liberty Horizons is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome all qualified applicants, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
