Job description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, Finance, IT & People Engagement, the Manager, Accounting is responsible for managing the Finance team and its day-to-day activities to ensure the maintenance of accurate, complete and up-to-date accounting records. This is a hybrid position based in Toronto, ON.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Leads and manages the day-to-day accounting activities, processes and procedures, and month/year-end closing processes that contribute towards the preparation of complete, accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with funder contracts, Catalyste+ policies and Canadian GAAP for not-for-profit organizations.
  2. Supervises and provides guidance to a small Finance team.
  3. Detail reviews (or delegates as appropriate) work prepared and entered by direct reports to ensure accurate and up-to-date accounting records
  4. Prepares or reviews and approves journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
  5. Provides guidance, such as orientation training, to other departmental staff including in-country representatives to ensure transactions adhere to and in compliance with Catalyste+ financial policies, funders’ contracts and Canadian GAAP.
  6. Provides program-specific financial documents and reports (e.g. invoices, A/R aging, A/R or Advances to Catalyste+ Advisors) as applicable to the appropriate staff to support business operations and/or enable proper follow up
  7. Works closely with the Finance team for external audits including preparation of working papers and account reconciliations, and responses to inquiries.
  8. Manages implementing and enforcing of internal controls policies and procedures.
  9. Liaises with service providers (e.g. bank) as requested to set up new services or resolve finance-related issues.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Proactively identify areas where process improvements and/or real savings may be realized from an accounting perspective.
  2. Performs other duties/special projects as assigned by the Director, Finance, IT & People Engagement (e.g. prepare tax filings).
  3. Where requested, participates in and contributes to organizational initiatives such as process improvements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • CPA (CGA/CMA/CA) designation required
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to work across various functions
  • Experience with government contracts, an asset
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to business and functional leaders for timely reporting
  • Experience with Quickbooks an asset
  • Experience with SAP Concur an asset
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Ideal candidate will be a team player, outgoing, energetic and a good communicator
  • Bilingual – English / French, preferred

Gestionnaire comptable

RÉSUMÉ

Sous la responsabilité de la directrice des finances, TI et de la mobilisation des talents, le gestionnaire de la comptabilité est chargé de diriger l’équipe financière et de superviser ses activités quotidiennes afin de garantir la tenue de registres comptables précis, complets et à jour. Il s’agit d’un poste hybride basé à Toronto, en Ontario.

PRINCIPALES RESPONSABILITÉS

  1. Diriger et gérer les activités, processus et procédures comptables quotidiens, ainsi que les processus de clôture mensuelle et annuelle, afin de contribuer à la préparation d’états financiers complets, exacts et remis en temps opportun, conformément aux contrats des bailleurs de fonds, aux politiques de Catalyste+ et aux PCGR canadiens applicables aux organismes à but non lucratif.
  2. Supervise et encadre une petite équipe financière.
  3. Vérifie en détail (ou délègue cette tâche le cas échéant) le travail préparé et saisi par ses subordonnés directs afin de garantir l’exactitude et l’actualité des registres comptables
  4. Prépare ou examine et approuve les écritures comptables et les rapprochements mensuels des comptes
  5. Fournit des conseils, notamment par le biais de formations d’intégration, aux autres membres du personnel du département, y compris aux représentants sur le terrain, afin de garantir que les transactions respectent les politiques financières de Catalyste+, les contrats des bailleurs de fonds et les PCGR canadiens.
  6. Fournit les documents et rapports financiers spécifiques aux programmes (par exemple, factures, tableau de vieillissement des créances, créances ou avances aux conseiller(ère)s de Catalyste+) aux membres du personnel concernés, le cas échéant, afin de soutenir les opérations commerciales et/ou de permettre un suivi adéquat.
  7. Travaille en étroite collaboration avec l’équipe financière dans le cadre des audits externes, notamment pour la préparation des documents de travail et des rapprochements comptables, ainsi que pour répondre aux demandes de renseignements.
  8. Gère la mise en œuvre et l’application des politiques et procédures de contrôle interne.
  9. Assure la liaison avec les prestataires de services (par exemple, la banque) selon les besoins pour mettre en place de nouveaux services ou résoudre des problèmes d’ordre financier.

RESPONSABILITÉS SECONDAIRES

  1. Identifie de manière proactive les domaines dans lesquels des améliorations de processus et/ou de réelles économies peuvent être réalisées d’un point de vue comptable.
  2. Effectue d’autres tâches ou projets spéciaux confiés par la directrice des finances, TI et de la mobilisation des talents (par exemple, la préparation des déclarations fiscales).
  3. Sur demande, participe et contribue à des initiatives organisationnelles telles que l’amélioration des processus.

CONNAISSANCES ET COMPÉTENCES REQUISES

  • • Titre de CPA (CGA/CMA/CA)
  • • 3 à 5 ans d’expérience pertinente
  • • Solides compétences analytiques et capacité à travailler avec différents services
  • • Une expérience dans le domaine des marchés publics est un atout
  • • Très grand souci du détail
  • • Flexibilité et réactivité vis-à-vis des responsables opérationnels et fonctionnels pour assurer la remise des rapports en temps voulu
  • • Une expérience avec Quickbooks est un atout
  • • Une expérience avec SAP Concur est un atout
  • • Excellentes compétences en Excel
  • • Capacité à établir des priorités, à respecter les délais et à travailler sous pression
