Description:

Title and number of the course: JLS472H1S – Child Language Disorders

Course description: Students are introduced to the etiologies and characteristics of speech and language disorders in children, associated with autism, intellectual disabilities, and specific language impairment. Theoretical underpinnings of the major intervention approaches for children with speech and language disorders are discussed.

Estimated TA Support: 1 TA @ 50 hours

An estimate of the course enrolment: 50 undergraduates

Class schedule: Mondays 10:00am - 1:00pm

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2027 - April 30, 2027

Salary (includes vacation pay):

Sessional Lecturers I - $9,997.47

Sessional Lecturers I (Long Term) - $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturers II - $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturers II (Long Term) - $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturers III - $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term) - $11,228.90

Minimum Qualifications: Solid background in speech-language pathology, and mastery of the course material, including ongoing research related to the course material and clinical experience in SLP. Previous experience as an instructor in JLS courses.

Preferred Qualifications: A Master's or PhD in a relevant field is preferred. Previous experience working with Teaching Assistants/Graders is desirable. Excellent teaching evaluations as a Course Instructor in a JLS course is an asset.

A brief description of the duties: The Sessional Lecturer position involves the normal duties related to the design, teaching, and timely administration of a university credit course, including but not restricted to (i) preparation and delivery of course content, (ii) development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, (iii) calculation and submission of grades, (iv) holding regular office hours, (iv) supervision of TAs or Graders as required. The instructor is expected to be fully available for the duration of the employment period and be in geographical proximity to the University.
