This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with the Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.


As Senior Advisor Community Engagement you will lead the development and execution of CBC/Radio-Canadas collaborative strategy to reach and serve newcomers and other important communities in Canada. You are a strategic thinker who also executes at the day-to-day level. The role supports the Senior Director Business and Strategic Planning.


Youre collaborative influential and able to work independently while valuing collective success. You understand public service media (PSM) and its role in society. This role involves developing partnerships and ongoing reciprocal relationships with external organizations and works together with senior leaders across the corporation.


Your near-term objective will be to facilitate a meaningful engagement process involving both external stakeholders and internal CBC/Radio-Canada departments focused on newcomers to Canada. From those shared insights you will deliver a comprehensive set of recommendations. Ultimately you are responsible for leading the ongoing execution of a resulting plan ensuring it aligns with the key pillars of our overall corporate strategy and strengthens existing strategies across the corporation:

Depending on the success of this initiative there is potential to adapt this framework to engage and serve other communities.


What you will do:


  • Develop an understanding of the realities of newcomers to Canada
  • Build relationships and continually liaise with external partners (e.g. newcomer agencies partners organizations other public service media)
  • Explore potential opportunities through the use of market research interviews and input from external partners and internal departments
  • Develop and implement strategies and tactics to create meaningful engagement and connection with newcomers
  • Continually evolve the strategy based on the changing needs of these communities and the partners who serve them focusing on mutual growth
  • Monitor macro activities trends and research related to newcomers and other important communities
  • Ensure effective tracking of daily activities and broader project progress to facilitate ad-hoc reporting and long-term planning
  • Work closely with senior leadership in Corporate Development
  • Build relationships and continually liaise with internal CBC and Radio-Canada senior executives
  • Maintain visibility on all current and past community initiatives across both CBC and Radio-Canada ensuring institutional alignment and shared learning
  • Develop best practices that can be shared across the Corporation
  • As required prepare and present relevant materials to the Corporate Development Team Senior Executive Team Board of Directors and other key internal stakeholders
  • As required act as a representative of CBC/Radio-Canada to various meetings to advance the Corporations public service priorities
  • Manage the operating budget

We are looking for a candidate with the following:


  • 57 years of relevant experience in strategy development relationship management project management marketing and/or public service media
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada is considered a strong asset
  • Relevant lived experience is highly valued and considered an asset for this role
  • Full proficiency in English and French (reading writing and oral)
  • Experience in relationship management and liaising with third parties
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear actionable plans
  • Exceptional organizational logistical and planning skills
  • Ability to organize set agendas manage and lead meetings (in-person and virtual settings)
  • Highly skilled in the preparation and presentation of communications and meeting materials (including information decks)
  • Ability to negotiate with and present to senior leaders
  • Comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative research materials
  • Comfortable working with legal documents
  • Comfortable working with budgets
  • Understanding of the Canadian media landscape and the unique position of CBC/Radio-Canada
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to work independently and effectively across diverse components and departments
