Overview

Services within Mastercard is responsible for acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers by managing fraud and risk, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving the digital payments experience. We provide value-added services and leverage expertise, data-driven insights, and execution.

The Vice President, Fraud Attack Response & Insights will lead a newly established global function responsible for fraud attack response, fraud intelligence, and fraud risk governance across the Mastercard ecosystem. This role will transform fraud events and emerging threat signals into actionable intelligence, enhanced controls, and security standards that strengthen Mastercard's ability to prevent, detect, and respond to fraud across payment and data flows.

Working across Integrity & Standards and Security Solutions, this leader will drive cross-functional alignment, informed decision-making, and operational resilience while advancing Mastercard's proactive, risk-led approach to fraud management.

This role focuses on securing the transactions Mastercard enables and the stakeholders involved in those transactions, including issuers, acquirers, merchants, and partners. This is not a corporate or information security role.

The Role

  • Build and lead a critical global capability that strengthens Mastercard's ability to identify, respond to, and learn from emerging fraud threats.
  • Lead Mastercard's global fraud attack response function, providing strategic oversight of fraud incident management and response activities across the ecosystem.
  • Establish a cross-functional command model that enables effective coordination across product, security, risk, operations, and technology teams during high-impact fraud events.
  • Drive post-incident reviews and ensure lessons learned are translated into stronger controls, security standards, and product enhancements.
  • Build and lead a Fraud Intelligence & Insights function that consolidates intelligence from incidents, network signals, fraud registries, and external sources to inform fraud mitigation, product strategy, and executive decision-making.
  • Establish fraud risk governance frameworks, including risk identification, prioritization, escalation, and monitoring processes.
  • Influence governance forums responsible for approving mitigation strategies, monitoring fraud performance, and addressing critical risks.
  • Partner with product, security, and standards teams to embed fraud insights into product roadmaps, security requirements, network controls, and long-term ecosystem protection strategies.
  • Build and develop high-performing global teams while creating a scalable operating model that supports a follow-the-sun fraud response capability.

All About You

  • A strategic fraud leader with deep payments expertise and a proven ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and translate fraud intelligence into business impact.
  • Progressive leadership experience in payment fraud at a regional or global level, with responsibility for fraud strategy, intelligence, operations, or risk management.
  • Strong expertise in payment fraud analytics, fraud intelligence, network or product security, and cross-functional governance.
  • Deep understanding of card, digital, account-to-account, and real-time payment fraud trends and mitigation strategies.
  • Proven experience leading fraud response, fraud operations, investigations, or intelligence functions in complex environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels, balancing long-term priorities with incident response and execution.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing, geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across product, security, risk, operations, and technology organizations.
  • Success establishing operating models, governance frameworks, and scalable processes within global, matrixed organizations.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to drive outcomes through partnership and influence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a payment network, issuer, acquirer, bank, fintech, or other regulated financial institution.
  • Experience leading fraud operations, fraud intelligence, fraud strategy, or fraud risk management teams.
  • Experience managing large-scale fraud monitoring, attack response, or fraud governance programs.
  • Exposure to open banking, open finance, real-time payments, blockchain, digital identity, or other emerging payment ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with global fraud regulations, industry standards, and evolving fraud trends.
