BMO Insurance is transforming its Advisory business to accelerate growth, expand distribution, modernize advisor experiences, and deliver on an ambitious strategic roadmap.

The Director, Business Management, Advisory serves as a strategic advisor and trusted partner to the SVP & Head of Advisory. As a key member of the leadership team, this role drives alignment between strategy and execution, ensuring priorities are translated into measurable outcomes across functions, and acts as the business's operating integrator - bringing structure, governance, analytics, communications, planning, and execution discipline to a quickly evolving organization. The role is accountable for helping the Advisory leadership team focus on the highest-value priorities, manage organizational performance, and accelerate delivery of strategic outcomes. The focus is less on owning individual initiatives and more on ensuring the entire business executes effectively against its objectives.

Key Accountabilities

Strategic Planning & Strategy Execution

  • Partner with the SVP and Advisory Leadership Team to develop, refine, and operationalize the Advisory strategic plan.
  • Lead annual planning, quarterly business reviews, and strategic priority management.
  • Maintain an integrated view of all key initiatives, dependencies, risks, and outcomes across the Advisory business.
  • Establish governance processes that ensure transparency, accountability, and timely decision making.
  • Support execution of strategic recommendations arising from organizational transformation, distribution expansion, modernization, and growth initiatives.

Business Performance & Executive Insights

  • Develop and oversee the Advisory business scorecard, including growth, distribution, advisor experience, productivity, financial, and operational metrics.
  • Lead executive reporting and performance management processes.
  • Translate business data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor strategic initiative performance and ensure corrective actions are identified and executed where required.

Leadership Team Effectiveness

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the SVP & Head of Advisory Business.
  • Drive effectiveness of leadership forums, operating reviews, business updates, and executive planning sessions.
  • Coordinate leadership team priorities, decisions, and follow-through.
  • Ensure alignment across leaders and functions to achieve enterprise and business objectives.
  • Support organizational design, workforce planning, and operating model evolution as the business grows.

Governance, Risk & Change Leadership

  • Coordinate executive-level reporting, regulatory updates, risk oversight, and management attestations when required.
  • Identify emerging risks, organizational bottlenecks, and execution challenges and bring forward recommendations.
  • Drive change management efforts associated with business transformation initiatives.

Enterprise Relationship Management

  • Act as a central point of coordination for cross-functional initiatives impacting the Advisory business.
  • Influence stakeholders and navigate organizational complexity to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Represent the Advisory business in enterprise forums, working groups, and strategic initiatives when required.

Executive Communications

  • Lead development of leadership communications, strategic presentations, board and executive materials, town halls, and business updates.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and alignment across the Advisory organization.
  • Translate complex strategic topics into concise and actionable executive communications.
  • Support preparation for senior leadership meetings, strategic reviews, and key stakeholder engagements.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, business management, consulting, transformation, corporate development, sales enablement, or related leadership roles, preferably in insurance, wealth management, or financial services.
  • Proven success supporting senior executives and leading cross-functional strategic initiatives.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect strategy, operations, client experience, and financial performance.
  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical capability with experience building executive reporting and performance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience operating effectively in highly matrixed organizations.
  • Experience supporting business transformation, organizational design, or operating model implementation.
