POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Business Law. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a JD or equivalent degree. A doctoral degree, earned by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter, is preferred. Candidates must have a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates with research and teaching expertise in the area of Business Law including but not limited to Corporate Law, Corporate Governance, and Securities Law. The successful candidate’s research should be interdisciplinary and draw on economics, finance, accounting, management, political science, philosophy, or data science. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to produce scholarship that is not confined primarily to the law of a single jurisdiction. Jurisdiction specific expertise is valued where it is used to test, refine, or develop broader conceptual, comparative, institutional, or policy arguments.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence, as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals; the submitted research statement; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline; and strong endorsements from referees.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (including the required materials outlined below), and strong letters of reference.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidates will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The upper end of the salary range for this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
