Business System Analyst BSA Banking AML

Our leading financial services client in Toronto is seeking a highly skilled Technical Business Systems Analyst (BSA) with a strong background in .NET and database architecture to join their Financial Crime & Regulatory Compliance Technology team. In this role, you will act as the vital bridge between AML business stakeholders, risk officers, and engineering teams to deliver high-impact software solutions for anti-money laundering, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting systems.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in banking compliance domain concepts paired with technical fluency across Microsoft technologies (MS .NET, C#, VB.NET, MVC, IIS, MS SQL) and Java. You will analyze legacy systems, design functional/technical specifications, write complex SQL queries for data reconciliation, and guide full-stack applications through successful delivery.

Responsibilities
Requirements Engineering: Partner with AML, Risk, and Compliance business teams to elicit, analyze, and document Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirement Specifications (FRDs), and Agile User Stories.

Technical Systems & Data Analysis: Analyze existing legacy and modern application codebases (VB.NET, C#, MVC, Java) and database structures (MS SQL Server) to understand system dependencies, data flows, and transformation logic.

Data Lineage & Mapping: Formulate detailed Source-to-Target Mappings (STM), data dictionaries, and API/interface specifications for complex transaction monitoring and financial reporting pipelines.

SQL & Database Validation: Write advanced SQL queries (joins, stored procedures, views) to analyze underlying banking data, conduct gap analysis, perform data profiling, and validate business logic against database records.

System Testing & Defect Triage: Define UAT test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and test data conditioning. Facilitate defect triage sessions with full-stack engineering teams, tracking issues through resolution in Jira and Git/Bitbucket workflows.

Governance & Compliance: Ensure all system designs and workflow updates align with enterprise delivery frameworks, security standards, audit controls, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FINTRAC, OSFI, OFAC, BSA/AML).

Stakeholder & Team Alignment: Serve as the central point of contact during Agile ceremonies, helping translate complex business rules into technical tasks for developers and engineers.

Qualifications
Must-Have Experience & Technical Skills:

- Technical Experience: 5–8 years of hands-on experience or deep technical familiarity reading and analyzing code written in MS .NET (C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET MVC).

- Domain Knowledge: 5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or Technical Analyst within Tier-1 financial institutions or banking environments, with a solid understanding of AML, Transaction Monitoring, KYC, Sanctions Screening, or Regulatory Reporting workflows.

- Database & Querying: Expert-level proficiency writing complex MS SQL queries, stored procedures, and database triggers for data verification and reconciliation.

- Hosting & Web Architecture: Strong understanding of IIS (Internet Information Services) server configurations and web application architectures.

- Version Control & ALM: Proficiency using Git/Bitbucket for repository tracking, alongside Jira and Confluence for user story management and documentation.

- SDLC & Methodologies: Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum and hybrid delivery models, with a strong understanding of full-stack web application development lifecycles.

- Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas to non-technical business stakeholders and regulatory auditors.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

- ACAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or CBAP certification.

- Prior experience on legacy-to-cloud application modernization projects (.NET Framework to .NET Core / Cloud platforms).

- Familiarity with enterprise AML vendor platforms (e.g., FCRM, Actimize, Oracle Mantas, or SAS AML).
