Facilities Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager / Director, Facilities Capital Projects to provide leadership during a transitional period within their Facilities department. This individual will oversee a portfolio of capital construction and renovation projects while ensuring projects continue to progress on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with organizational priorities.

This is a highly visible leadership role that requires someone with a strong background in facilities capital projects, building systems, contractor management, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with consultants, architects, contractors, and internal leadership while managing a team responsible for delivering multiple projects across a large institutional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage projects from planning through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
• Coordinate consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
• Monitor project progress, budgets, risks, change orders, invoicing, and contract administration.
• Review drawings, specifications, and project documentation to ensure alignment with project objectives and organizational standards.
• Oversee commercial renovations, capital renewal initiatives, infrastructure upgrades, roof replacements, and building improvement projects.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to minimize operational disruptions while maintaining project timelines.
• Facilitate project meetings, provide status updates, and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, health and safety regulations, and organizational policies.
• Support ongoing improvements to facilities while maintaining strong relationships with vendors and external partners.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Sciences, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience managing facilities capital projects, construction, or infrastructure projects within complex environments.
• Experience leading large-scale commercial renovation or institutional capital projects.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies, procurement, contract administration, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
• Experience managing consultants, contractors, architects, engineers, and multiple internal stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
• Experience working within post-secondary, healthcare, municipal, government, or other large institutional environments is considered a strong asset.
• PMP, P.Eng., or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset.

Must-Haves

• Extensive experience managing facilities capital construction and renovation projects.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building infrastructure.
• Experience overseeing commercial renovation and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while balancing budgets, schedules, and competing priorities.
• Strong leadership experience managing project teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
• Proven experience with procurement, contract management, invoicing, and project financial tracking.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced facilities environment.
