Job Overview

The Eye Institute at Kensington Health, Ophthalmology Clinics is seeking Clinical Assistants responsible for the general flow during ophthalmology clinics. Tasks include, but not limited to, guiding patients into rooms, pulling up relevant patient records and ensuring clinics have adequate supplies necessary for patient flow, and managing referrals.

Responsibilities

1. Patient Flow Management

  • Bring patients from the waiting room into exam lanes.

  • Prepare& Clean examination rooms between patients.

  • Ensure the correct electronic medical record is opened and ready for the physician to view.

  • Help maintain an efficient clinic schedule and reduce patient wait times.

2. Clinical Support to Physicians

  • Assist ophthalmologists during clinics and minor procedures.

  • Support physicians with injections (e.g., retina anti-VEGF clinics).

  • Prepare required supplies and procedure kits.

  • Assist with obtaining and completing paperwork.

3. Patient Care and Communication

  • Escort and position patients safely.

  • Explain clinic processes and basic procedure information.

  • Provide a positive patient experience through professional and customer-focused interactions.

  • Maintain respectful communication with patients, families, and staff.

4. Equipment and Room Readiness

  • Clean exam rooms and equipment between patients as per infection control policies

  • Monitor equipment daily to ensure it is functioning properly.

  • Ensure rooms are stocked with required clinical supplies.

  • Report equipment issues or safety concerns.

5. Inventory Management

  • Maintain inventory of supplies.

  • Count and track injection medications and kits.

  • Receive clinic deliveries and ensure supplies are restocked.

  • Notify leadership when supplies are running low.

6. Administrative Support

  • Assist with documentation and paperwork.

  • Clear faxes and referrals and follow internal processes requiring booking patients for appointments.

7. Safety and Infection Prevention

  • Follow infection prevention and control (IPAC) practices.

  • Use personal protective equipment appropriately.

  • Report hazards, incidents, or equipment deficiencies.

  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

  • Client focused.

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours based on patient needs.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

  • Well-organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently without supervision and exercise initiative.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Proficiency with MS Office software - Word and Excel.

Required Professional Designation/Certificate:

  • University Degree with Science background.
