Job description

The Opportunity

Nearwater Capital is seeking a Trade Reporting and Operations Associate to join the Capital Markets Operations team. This hybrid role is designed for someone with a strong foundation in regulatory trade reporting, spanning SEC SBS, EMIR, SFTR, and MiFID II transaction reporting, who can also contribute meaningfully to the full scope of daily Capital Markets operations.

Nearwater Capital entities currently have direct or oversight responsibility for reporting under SEC Reg SBSR, EMIR, SFTR, and MiFIR Article 26. The firm anticipates further obligations as its product scope evolves. The successful candidate will primarily own the trade reporting function end to end: evaluating the existing setup, managing the third party vendor relationship and connection to trade repositories, building controls and reconciliations, and handling daily reporting execution and break resolution across all regimes. Secondarily, the individual will support the broader Capital Markets Operations team across daily trade lifecycle management, confirmation and affirmation workflows, margin and collateral operations (IM/VM, CSA/ISDA/GMRA), and daily reconciliations across prime brokers, custodians, and the OMS/PMS, while contributing to process improvement and automation initiatives.

There is also scope to centralize regulatory reporting firm-wide, including quarterly SEC Compliance submissions (13F, 13H) and various European reporting requirements, with this individual serving as a cross-functional resource between Operations and Compliance.

What You'll Do

Trade Reporting (Primary)

  • Own and manage daily trade reporting obligations across SEC SBSR, EMIR, SFTR, and MiFID II frameworks.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review and remediation, as needed, of existing reporting configurations, data specifications, and reporting logic; identify gaps across all regimes and drive resolution.
  • Serve as the in-house subject matter expert on SEC Reg SBSR, EMIR, SFTR, and MiFIR Article 26 transaction reporting (MiFID II RTS 22), covering both U.S. and European entity obligations.
  • Monitor delegated EMIR reporting submitted by counterparties; perform reconciliations, manage exception queues, and escalate breaks as appropriate.
  • Manage SFTR reporting for Nearwater's European entities, including daily securities financing transaction submissions (repo and related instruments), pairing and matching oversight, and break resolution with the reporting platform.
  • Own MiFIR Article 26 transaction reporting (MiFID II RTS 22) for applicable European entity activity; maintain instrument scope, LEI/ISIN population, and reporting logic; liaise with Compliance to keep configurations current as trading activity evolves.
  • Manage reporting specifications, data enrichment vendor relationships (Cappitech or other), and trade repository connectivity (DTCC and others) across all regimes; coordinate system changes arising from regulatory updates or product launches.
  • Implement controls and reconciliations as necessary.
  • Liaise with Compliance to interpret regulatory requirements and ensure reporting configurations accurately reflect current rule obligations based on jurisdiction and product; know when to escalate interpretive questions.
  • Coordinate with Compliance on quarterly SEC regulatory filings (13F, 13H), providing accurate operational data and supporting the submission process.
  • Monitor regulatory developments (SEC, CFTC, ESMA) alongside Compliance and assess impact on reporting obligations as the firm's entity structure, counterparty relationships, and product coverage evolve.

Capital Markets Operations (Secondary)

  • Support daily trade lifecycle management across equity derivatives, rates, and FX products (TRS, equity swaps, IRS, repo, options).
  • Assist with trade confirmation and affirmation workflows across prime broker and counterparty relationships.
  • Support margin and collateral operations, including IM/VM calls, CSA/ISDA/GMRA framework management, and dispute handling.
  • Contribute to daily reconciliation processes, including cash, positions, and NAV, across prime brokers, custodians, and the Enfusion OMS/PMS.
  • Work in Enfusion and custodian portals to manage daily operational tasks and resolve breaks.
  • Participate in process improvement and automation initiatives, and contribute to documentation and procedure build-out.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3–6+ years of Capital Markets operations experience, with a minimum of 2 years directly focused on regulatory trade reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with two or more of the following reporting regimes, with direct submission ownership (not delegated): SEC SBS, EMIR, SFTR, MiFID II (RTS 22).
  • Working knowledge of at least one trade reporting repository, including trade reporting automation.
  • Strong understanding of OTC derivatives and securities financing trade lifecycle, from execution through confirmation, clearing/bilateral, and reporting.

Preferred

  • Experience at a hedge fund, SBSD, or registered entity covering both U.S. and European reporting obligations; cross-jurisdictional ownership is a strong differentiator, as is experience covering trade reporting obligations at a regulatory agency.
  • Exposure to additional frameworks: Form PF, CFTC Part 45/43, or other cross-border reporting regimes beyond the core four.
  • Familiarity with prime brokerage operations, margin/collateral management (IM/VM, CSA/ISDA/GMRA), and dispute workflows.
  • Experience in Enfusion or comparable OMS/PMS platforms; comfort with custodian portals.
  • Proficiency in Excel/VBA; Python or SQL a meaningful plus.
  • CFA, CAIA, SIE, or Series 99 a plus.
  • Middle office background at a bank or prime broker with rotation across operational functions is strongly valued.

How You Work

  • Able to read, interpret, and operationalize regulatory rules with limited external support; comfortable engaging directly with the regulators' intent, not just the mechanics.
  • Comfortable liaising with and presenting key trade reporting updates to Compliance, senior stakeholders, and potentially regulators.
  • Detail-oriented with strong written communication skills, able to clearly articulate reporting logic, breaks, and open questions to both Operations and Compliance stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, able to manage recurring daily deadlines while handling longer-term remediation and project work in parallel.

What You'll Get

  • Ownership of a critical, high-visibility regulatory function from day one, with the opportunity to shape its build-out as Nearwater's reporting obligations expand across regimes.
  • Direct exposure to Compliance, senior Operations leadership, and potentially regulators, as the cross-functional owner between the two teams.
  • Broad exposure across the full Capital Markets Operations function, from trade lifecycle management to margin and collateral, alongside your reporting specialty.
  • A path to grow into a cross-jurisdictional, cross-functional role as the firm centralizes regulatory reporting firm-wide.
  • A fast-moving, intellectually challenging environment working across U.S. and European regulatory regimes.
