Job description

Our client is seeking a highly analytical and collaborative Senior Financial Analyst to join their corporate finance team on a 12 month contract.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in corporate reporting, regulatory compliance, and process optimization. This is an exceptional opportunity for a designated CPA who thrives at the intersection of complex financial accounting, regulatory frameworks, and cross-functional leadership. Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Disclosures: Prepare and review inputs for consolidated quarterly financial statement note disclosures.
  • Full-Cycle Accounting: Prepare routine and complex non-routine journal entries and reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Regulatory & Management Support: Provide reliable financial analysis and operational support for electricity regulatory filings and internal management reporting.
  • Controls & Compliance: Implement accounting, organizational, and regulatory policies, maintain internal controls (SOX/Bill 198 equivalent), and act as a primary point of contact for external auditors.
  • Strategic Communication: Analyze and discuss financial performance with key stakeholders, clearly explaining the "why" behind the numbers and highlighting key business drivers.
  • Technical Accounting Standards: Stay ahead of emerging IFRS and Accounting Procedures Handbook (APH) requirements, leading the implementation of new standards.
  • Process Optimization: Drive efficiencies and productivity by re-engineering workflows and leveraging IT tools for automation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead meetings and initiatives across various business units, influencing timelines and project outcomes to ensure organizational accountability.

What You Bring:

To excel in this role, you must possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a solid foundation in Canadian accounting standards:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Designation: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada is required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial analysis and reporting experience.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with regulatory accounting and MIFRS (Modified International Financial Reporting Standards) is highly desired.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems; a proven track record of using IT tools to automate manual processes.
  • Soft Skills: Outstanding relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
