Job description

Interested in the environment and sustainability? Would you like to work for a large company and play a key role in ensuring that standards and policies are met? Join our HSEC team to help support sustainable practices, reduce environmental impacts, and protect people and communities. In this role you will collaborate across operations to implement HSEC initiatives, monitor performance, and support continuous improvement. If you are committed to making a measurable environmental and social difference, we want to hear from you.

The role in a nutshell:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Coordinator to support our environmental management programs across the North American Legacy Assets. The candidate will help ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, Glencore HSEC standards and policies, and industry best practices.

This role involves monitoring environmental performance, completion and review of annual regulatory reporting, supporting various environmental monitoring and management programs across the Legacy Assets, conducting audits and training programs, and working collaboratively with the Legacy Asset site teams to meet asset-level and company-level goals.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, permits, licenses, and Glencore HSEC standards and policies.
  • Support HSEC team with environmental audits and risk-assessments across the Legacy Assets.
  • Conduct environmental training programs and needs assessments for the Legacy Asset site teams.
  • Assist with environmental sampling programs, including water quality, soil and waste management.
  • Maintain environmental monitoring database and prepare technical reports for internal and regulatory reporting using environmental data.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental compliance reports.
  • Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support environmental, reclamation and biodiversity management initiatives.
  • Support Legacy Assets projects and risk assessment teams, as required.
  • Maintain environmental records, databases, permits and documentation.
  • Support emergency response activities involving environmental incidents, such as spills or releases.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Post-Secondary degree in the field of Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Earth Sciences or Geoscience;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of environmental experience, preferably within mining, heavy industry, or environmental consulting;
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory compliance;
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and sampling techniques;
  • Effective written communication skills, solid analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with GIS and environmental data management software is an asset;
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills and capacity to manage several tasks at once;
  • Ability to work both on your own and as part of multidisciplinary teams;
  • Valid driver’s licence required;

Travel: You will be required to travel to the different sites (Canada and USA) approximately 30% of the time.

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. The knowledge of French is a definite asset.

Location: Corporate office in Toronto 5 days a week when not travelling to sites.

The expected base salary for this position is 76 000$ to 105 000$, based on competencies, skills, and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. The incumbent will also be eligible to participate in a variable compensation plan (bonus) (note: payment of variable compensation is subject to the terms and conditions of the variable compensation plan and is not guaranteed).

This posting reflects a current opening. All applications are reviewed by a member of our recruitment team — no automated screening. While we thank everyone for their application, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

The interview process may begin before the end of the posting period.

Only candidates with full working rights in Canada will be considered.
