WHATS THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for an Another Youth Creation (AYC) Program Host to join our Community and Youth Development team! In this role youll be responsible for co-planning and co-facilitating weekly programming with a focus on recreational activities and creative expression from a foundation of youth engagement. The AYC Program Host will be responsible for creating a welcoming and safe space for all program participants as well as completing administrative tasks and participating in program planning. We are looking to hire one AYC Program Host that is an alumni student with the Pathways to Education Program.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING:

  • Greet participants at the designated meeting space and ensure their safety walking between programming locations (eg. walking to and from Keatsway Public School and the Erb West Community Centre).
  • Support completion of programming attendance.
  • Help transport snacks and program equipment to and from programming locations; pack snacks and equipment away at the end of programming.
  • Communicate areas that are available to participants and those that are restricted.
  • Encourage positive participation from program attendees including working with Community Development staff to ensure safe behaviour throughout programming.
  • Support planning of weekly recreational and creative activities including co-facilitation of activities during programming.

Additional Responsibilities Could Include:

  • Supporting Community Development team with other community events as necessary (eg. BBQs movie nights feedback events etc.)
  • Giving feedback to staff on snacks & supplies to purchase.
  • Connecting with parents and guardians of program participants for updates information and follow-up as necessary

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:

  • Demonstrated experience in programs such as camp leadership summer playground 4H activity or similar programs for children and youth
  • Volunteer experience with appropriate age group (eg. children in grades 1-7; youth in grades 8-12)
  • You are an alumni of a Pathways to Education program (Kitchener or other location).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Teamwork and cooperation skills
  • Time management and organization skills
  • Very organized and detail oriented with the ability to multitask while managing the workload
  • Ability to manage deadlines time pressures and solving problems

ARE THERE BONUS POINTS

ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW:

  • This is a contract part-time position from September 2026 to June 2027.
  • Program is hosted at Keatsway Public School Erb West Community Centre and other community locations (eg. playgrounds etc).
  • Camino will be hiring 1 AYC Program Host an alumni of the Pathways Kitchener Program.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • A police record check for the vulnerable sector is required for applicants 18 and older
  • Must be able to provide either proof of vaccination or documentation providing a satisfactory reason under the Ontario Human Rights Code for not being vaccinated
  • Upon hire will be required to provide SIN and bank account details for payroll
  • Hours of work are typically two nights a week plus planning and preparation.
  • One evening is working with children grades 1-6 and another evening working with youth grades 7-12
  • Wage: $21.30 per hour.

As an AYC Program Host you will be responsible for co-creating weekly activities for two age groups that are engaging and meaningful. You will also be responsible for documentation of the program and managing the budget with another staff.

Please follow the prompts below to demonstrate how you would plan for one session of programming for each age group (children grades 1-6; youth grades 7-12).

Be sure to include:

  • notes on why you made the choices you did and
  • what factors you have taken into consideration to make sure everyone can participate. (Think about the wide range of children & youth present and how to make a session as inclusive as possible).

Supplies you can use: basketballs soccer balls dodgeballs volleyball chalk paint canvas beads string yarn knitting needles pylons. You would also have snacks available to bring to the program and $30 of budget per session to purchase additional supplies if needed.

Space you can use: a gym at a local public school. The backup space is a small outdoor space outside or inside of the townhouse community centre at Erb.

Timing: 2 hours in the evening
