This role is critical in driving our mission to support global decarbonization and digitization trends through advanced electric heating solutions.

The R&D Test Technician supports the research and development team by building, assembling, and testing prototypes and experimental setups in a laboratory environment. This role is hands-on and involves executing test plans, collecting data, and preparing reports. The technician also assists in maintaining lab equipment and ensuring the R&D workspace operates efficiently and safely.

You'll thrive here if you:

  • Apply a hands-on approach with cutting-edge equipment to rigorously test and validate new designs.
  • Appreciate the elegance of well thought-out, purpose-built designs.

What You'll Do

  • Assist engineers and senior team members in the research, testing, and development of new products by carrying out assigned tasks and supporting experimental activities.
  • Build and assemble prototype components, test samples, and basic fixtures using provided drawings, instructions, or guidance from engineering staff.
  • Support troubleshooting activities on products and related equipment by performing inspections, running tests, and helping identify potential issues under direction.
  • Prepare basic technical documentation, including test procedures, data summaries, and simple lab reports, ensuring information is clear, accurate, and complete.
  • Collect, record, and organize test data, and assist in comparing results against defined acceptance criteria, industry standards (CSA, UL, IEC), and customer specifications.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of laboratory testing, including electronic data files, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the upkeep, calibration, and general maintenance of lab equipment, ensuring tools and workspaces remain clean, safe, and functional.
  • Review updated codes and standards and assess impact on product design.
  • Provide enhancement and continuous improvement to existing products and processes.
  • Support ongoing product and process improvement efforts by providing feedback from testing activities and assisting with implementation of design updates or changes.

What You Bring

  • 2-5 years of hands on experience in a Technician or Technologist role
  • Baseline proficiency in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and measurement disciplines
  • Experience with test equipment and instrumentation, such as:
    • Multimeters
    • Power supplies
    • Data acquisition systems (DAQ)
    • Temperature measurement devices
  • Must have good manual dexterity and possess general proficiency with tools for working with sheet metal, electric wiring, wood and other building materials
  • Excellent knowledge of safe working practices
  • Basic proficiency with Excel or similar tools for data entry, simple analysis, and charting
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, test procedures, standards & specifications
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining test records, lab documentation, and equipment logs
  • Mechanical/Electrical technical diploma or equivalent

Bonus Points For

  • Experience working with heating products, temperature testing, and control systems
  • Exposure to basic CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
  • Familiarity with basic control systems or PLCs
  • Experience with calibration or maintenance of lab equipment
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation or progress toward certification.
