Employment Type: Permanent Full-time, Bargaining Unit (1Vacancy)

Work Hours: 35 hours/week Mon‑Fri 9am‑5pm (Some evenings and weekends shifts may be required)

Work Setting: Onsite – Limited opportunities to work remotely

Salary: External G7: $54,097.76 per year | Internal G8: $55,201.79 per year

Program Overview – Family Settlement Services

This position supports newcomers to successfully adjust to their new lives in Canada. It increases newcomers’ knowledge of community resources available to them and enhances the local community’s awareness of needs and issues faced by newcomers and immigrants. The role serves newcomer clients in person as well as through e‑services and ensures that all program goals, statistics and outcomes are met.

What You Will Do

  • Provide one‑on‑one needs assessments, information and orientation, group programs and referral services to newcomers and their families and link them with community resources in housing, healthcare, education, language development, employment, career development and recreation.
  • Provide supportive counselling and crisis intervention.
  • Use the PIE model to capture intake, needs assessment, settlement plan, evaluation and follow‑up activities.
  • Stay abreast of all immigration and government service related changes to ensure service quality.
  • Provide services at satellite sites.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a program plan that provides a range of opportunities, available to newcomers and their families, in the areas of settlement, employment, language classes, bridging programs, computer training, housing, childcare and other services.
  • Actively work with schools, libraries, community organisations, recreational centres, faith organisations, local employers, health and family centres, local immigrant groups, malls, ethnic media and websites to maximise newcomers and immigrants’ access to resources, and to enhance capacity for services.
  • Collaborate with other units to enhance outreach capacity.
  • Ensure that promotional materials are created, updated and distributed, and outreach activities are conducted as planned.
  • Work with other WoodGreen staff to ensure ongoing collaboration and coordination within the organization.
  • Ensure that all client data are entered into the database and iCARE accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a database for client contacts and service profiles.
  • Create and maintain a database for community contacts.
  • Monitor and document outcomes of all services, including compiling client success stories.
  • Report all program related activities to the manager on a regular basis.
  • Attend community meetings, activities and events, and actively promote WoodGreen in a professional manner.
  • Participate as part of the Family Settlement Service in developing and implementing unit goals and objectives.
  • Engage in training and education to upgrade skills as directed by WoodGreen Community Services to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Maintain all aspects of confidentiality relating to community partners, community members and clients.
  • Ensure the anti‑racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Be responsible for representing the unit on internal staff committees as directed by the Unit Director and the Manager of Family Settlement Services.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, education or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working one‑on‑one to provide settlement services to newcomers including refugees.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who speak Bengali, due to program needs and to support service delivery for Bengali‑speaking clients.

  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management and supportive counselling.
  • Strong intake and assessment skills; demonstrated information and referral skills.
  • Experienced in workshop development and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate in a team and cross‑team.
  • Strong organisational/planning skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong technology and documentation skills to inform program and meet organisational and funder requirements.
  • Available to work weekend and evening hours and at multiple sites.
