Job description
Are you a skilled financial professional looking for your next big career move? An exciting opportunity has arrived! A leading financial institution in Toronto is seeking a driven, analytical, and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst to join their dynamic Finance Controllership team.

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the data integrity and accuracy of financial and management reporting. This is not just a standard project-based role; you will be deeply embedded in continuous, high-impact month-end reporting and continuous accounting activities that keep the business moving forward. Working as part of a collaborative 12-person team, you will collaborate daily with managers who support Capital Markets Banking, making this an incredible opportunity to deepen your expertise in the financial services sector.

Advantages
Why should you apply for this Senior Financial Analyst position? Here are the amazing benefits of this opportunity:
•Long-Term Stability: A 12-month contract offering long-term stability and continuous professional engagement.
•Growth Potential: While initially a contract, there is a distinct possibility for an extension or a permanent conversion to a full-time role.
•Perfect Balance: Enjoy a flexible hybrid work model, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and collaborating on-site.
•Prime Location: Work out of a beautiful, modern office space right in the heart of downtown Toronto (81 Bay Street).
•Work-Life Balance: Maintain a standard 37.5-hour work week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM), with occasional opportunities for overtime.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will take ownership of vital financial workflows and serve as a pillar of operational excellence. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
•Managing and executing monthly and quarterly General Ledger (GL) close processes with a high degree of accuracy.
•Overseeing the completion of month-end reconciliation processes, preparing critical journal entries, and conducting thorough financial analysis.
•Investigating reporting discrepancies and deep-diving into end-to-end accounting processes to identify gaps and recommend optimal solutions.
•Reviewing financial results and proactively communicating variances or issues to minimize surprises during the GL close.
•Ensuring finance-owned SOX controls (including suspense accounts) are effectively and regularly performed to identify and manage risk exposure.
•Driving continuous improvements to streamline operational processes and strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications
To thrive in this environment, candidates must demonstrate a deep level of practical, hands-on experience rather than just theoretical knowledge.

Must Haves:
•Experience: 5+ years of relevant, hands-on financial work experience, specifically within financial service institutions.
•Technical Excel Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, VBA, and Macros, alongside familiarity with modern AI tools.
•Analytical Power: Strong data management skills and comfort working with a high volume of complex data.
•Core Accounting Skills: Proven ability to investigate accounting issues, manage end-to-end ledger processes, and maintain a sharp attention to detail.
•Soft Skills: Exceptional communication skills in English (both written and verbal), a collaborative team-player mindset, and the drive to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Haves:
•Industry Knowledge: Practical understanding or experience working with lending products, terms, conditions, interests, and fees.
•Systems Experience: Familiarity with major General Ledger applications such as Oracle Peoplesoft & BI, SAP, or ACBS.
•Certifications: An accounting designation or equivalent (e.g., CPA or CFA) in good standing, with strong knowledge of IFRS accounting standards.

Summary
If you are a passionate professional who thrives on giving meaning to data, investigating complex financial problems, and driving collective success, this role is for you. This 12-month hybrid position in downtown Toronto requires on-site attendance just 9 days a month (specifically Mondays, Tuesdays, and the fourth Friday of each month), offering you an ideal balance of flexibility and team collaboration.
