Client Environment

The Labour and Transportation I&IT Cluster (LTC) Operations Maintenance and Support Branch (OMSB) provides hosting, maintenance, and operational support services for mission-critical, business-critical, and business-support applications used by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).

The Operations team delivers Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions using Microsoft Azure and supports Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint Online, Dynamics 365, PowerApps, Salesforce, and Azure DevOps. The team is seeking a Middleware Specialist with strong Azure infrastructure, application deployment, security, and operational support experience.

Key Responsibilities

Azure Infrastructure & Cloud Operations

• Design, build, deploy, and support Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS environments.
  
• Contribute to technical architecture and hosting environment design.
  
• Define and execute cloud migration strategies.
  
• Build and deploy systems into Azure environments.
  
• Migrate and re-platform applications to Azure as required.
  
• Configure Azure networking components including VNets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), firewalls, and related Azure-native networking services.
  
• Manage Azure resources and provide right-sizing recommendations to optimize cloud costs.
  

Application Publishing & Integration

• Publish applications to Internet and Intranet environments using Azure Application Gateway and other proxy technologies.
  
• Design and deploy secure web publishing solutions utilizing Azure Application Gateway, F5, and related technologies.
  
• Support end-to-end integration of enterprise applications across multiple platforms.
  
• Define deployment requirements for .NET applications hosted on Azure.
  
• Configure and maintain IIS 10+ environments.
  

DevOps & Automation

• Create, maintain, and support Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  
• Automate migration, deployment, and operational activities using PowerShell and scripting tools.
  
• Participate in deployment and release management activities and Change Requests (CRQs).
  
• Support Agile and DevOps delivery methodologies.
  

Operational Support

• Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for production environments.
  
• Monitor and troubleshoot Azure-hosted applications and infrastructure.

• Perform OS and middleware patching activities.
  
• Audit and report security-related events according to government standards.
  

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Create operational procedures, support documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
  
• Contribute to knowledge bases, service desk documentation, and internal wikis.
  
• Train internal technical staff on monitoring, troubleshooting, and support processes.
  

Required Qualifications

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Extensive experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS services.
  
• Strong experience with Azure networking, including VNets, NSGs, firewalls, and application gateways.
  
• Experience with Azure Application Gateway and F5 technologies.
  

Application & Middleware

• Experience deploying and supporting .NET applications on Azure.
  
• Strong IIS 10+ administration and troubleshooting skills.
  
• Experience publishing applications to Internet and Intranet environments.
  
• Experience integrating enterprise applications across multiple platforms.
  

DevOps & Automation

• Experience creating and maintaining Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  
• Strong PowerShell and VBS scripting experience.
  
• Knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  

Operating Systems

• Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and above.
  
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and above.
  
• Linux hosting and administration experience.
  

Database Technologies

• Microsoft SQL Server administration and support.

Mobile Device Management Experience supporting mobile device management for cellular devices and tablets across multiple platforms and operating systems. Desirable Skills Experience supporting Government of Ontario enterprise environments. Experience with enterprise modernization and cloud transformation initiatives. Familiarity with enterprise governance, compliance frameworks, and audit readiness programs. Experience mentoring and coaching junior DevOps and infrastructure resources. Strong understanding of operational resilience, disaster recovery, and enterprise monitoring strategies. Additional Information Strong hands-on DevOps, cloud infrastructure, automation, CI/CD, security, and enterprise release management experience is mandatory for this role.
