Emergency Preparedness Advisor (Oakville)

Overview

The Emergency Preparedness Advisor is responsible for the development, maintenance and testing of the Hospital's emergency management program across all hospitals and off-site locations. In cooperation with regional partners, the Advisor develops processes and procedures that prepare the organization for routine response to standardized emergency codes and to critical facility downtime, missing and violent patients, and non-routine crisis incidents through the development and execution of policies, education and event simulations based on the standard Incident Management System (IMS).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain corporate emergency preparedness programs including mitigation, planning, response and recovery for all emergency codes and plans.
• Develop and execute corporate emergency preparedness training and learning programs.
• Prepare orientation, policies, procedures and exercises relating to emergency incidents.
• Provide project management and support for the hospital emergency preparedness plan to ensure compliance with relevant Accreditation standards.
• Act as a resource to department heads for emergency response procedures and staff training within various areas.
• Collaborate with the Fire Safety Officer to promote fire safety by aligning training and safety plans with the Ontario Fire Code and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Develop and lead organization response to emergency codes as per OHA standards (e.g., code yellow, code amber, code white, code black, code purple, code grey).
• Maintain liaison with regional partners including Public Health, EMS, Police and Fire Departments to facilitate coordinated emergency response planning.
• Develop and execute live action simulation exercises to test coordinated responses to simulated emergencies (e.g., Code Silver, Code Orange).
• Co-chair the Emergency Preparedness Coordinating Committee responsible for the development, review and endorsement of all Code response documents.
• Act as the secondary fire safety and response expert for Halton Healthcare and as the backup liaison to municipal Fire Departments.

Qualifications

• Post-Secondary Degree plus a Community College certificate in Emergency Management or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
• Minimum of 5 years related experience (e.g., disaster planning, emergency management, emergency preparedness and/or healthcare environment).
• Demonstrated project planning/management skills.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence diverse audiences.
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Fire Safety Training is an asset.

Additional Information

• Hours: Monday to Friday - 7.5 hour shifts; 08:00–16:00 (Hours are subject to change based on operational requirements).
• Salary: $49.185 to $61.507 per hour.
