CLAIMS MANAGER / CGL ADJUSTER
Greater Toronto Area |Full-Time, Permanent
This is not your average claims role. If you’ve been grinding away in a large insurance company, doing the same type of file on repeat, following a checklist someone else designed, and waiting three levels up for a process change that will never come, this opportunity was built for someone exactly like you.
Our client is a specialized insurer with a tight-knit, collaborative team looking for a sharp, curious, and communicative Claims Manager/CGL Adjuster to join them in a senior, high-impact role. You’ll report directly to a Vice President who has 20 years of litigation and in-house insurance experience and genuinely wants to mentor the right person.
If the idea of working in an environment where your voice actually shapes how things get done, and where you’re trusted to think, not just tick boxes, sounds like a relief, keep reading.
About the Role
Reporting to the VP of Claims, you will take full ownership of the Claims function, handling a diverse and interesting portfolio of third-party liability, property, vehicle, and personal injury claims. You will also supervise a Claims Adjuster and contribute meaningfully to department strategy.
This is a genuinely broad role. You’ll become a versatile expert across multiple claim types, not a specialist locked into one lane. The right person will see that breadth as one of the most exciting parts of the job.

What We’re Looking For
We’re open-minded about where the right person comes from. Beyond traditional large insurer backgrounds, strong candidates may include experienced adjusters from self-insured programs, transportation companies, real estate firms, municipalities, or other organizations with in-house claims functions. What matters most is how you think.
Required:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience adjusting liability claims (commercial, CGL, occupiers’ liability, property, or related lines)
- Solid working knowledge of contract and tort law
- Strong verbal communicator, comfortable picking up the phone to resolve issues quickly, not just defaulting to email
- Independent thinker who can assess a file on its merits rather than rely on a pre-set checklist
- Genuine generalist mindset, comfortable working across multiple claim types simultaneously
- Post-secondary diploma or degree; CIP designation (or working toward it)
Strong Assets
- Experience with litigation management and working alongside external legal counsel
- Prior supervisory or mentorship experience in a claims setting
- Background in a self-insured environment or smaller organizational claims function
- Familiarity with vehicle and property claims in addition to liability
The Culture Fit
This role is in-office, five days a week, in Vaughan. The team is small, collaborative, and values people who show up, literally and figuratively. You’ll work alongside people who like to solve problems together, have real conversations, and take pride in doing good work in a setting where everyone’s contribution is visible.
The ideal candidate is someone who was successful at a larger company but found themselves wanting more autonomy, more variety, and more of a say in how things are done. If you’ve been waiting for someone to let you actually think, this is that job.
