This role is focused on underwriting commercial auto and transportation risks within the casualty department. As a underwriting specialist you will be responsible for driving profitable results within the commercial auto portfolio on a national level. Within scope for role will be interactions with various internal business units including other underwriting teams claims actuarial as well as external relationship management with brokerages and producers. As part of a small and specialized team your efforts will be noticed as you play a significant role in the portfolio results and direction.

How you will create an impact

Reporting to the Canadian Regional Manager Commercial Automobile and Transportation will assist in leading a team of auto and transportation underwriting professionals collaborate closely with distribution claims actuarial and other internal stakeholders to support profitable growth and position AIG as a market leader.

• People Leadership: Lead coach and develop a team of auto and transportation underwriters to achieve underwriting excellence and profitable results.
• Managing broker partners relationships and the respective portfolios.
• Provide mentoring and training to underwriters.
• Assist with monitoring regulatory changes and implementation within the division protocols and processes.
• Foster a culture of collaboration inclusivity and continuous learning.
• Market Presence: build solidify and lead broker and client engagements and produce new business by working with our broker network to source new opportunities
• Ensure you and the teams adherence to all standards including service level agreements for premium processing policy issuance file maintenance and underwriting governance.
• Underwrite Canadian Auto policies including Owned Auto Non-Owned Auto Garage Lessors Contingent and CGL policies.
• Responsible for analyzing the risk and ensuring compliance with Casualty underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Production of profitable new and renewal business.
• Participate in special underwriting projects as needed.

What youll need to succeed:

• Prior management or team-lead mentoring experience with strong ability to lead and manage a team of underwriters.
• Proven ability to deliver difficult messages whilst influencing positive outcomes.
• General understanding and awareness of peoples behaviors their complexities and how to deal with them.
• Organized highly motivated self-starter who takes responsibility for own performance and demonstrates leadership in their approach to work training and knowledge seeking.
• 10 years of experience in casualty and auto underwriting specifically Commercial Auto and Transportation risks.
• Knowledgeable on the transportation industry litigation trends in Canada and USA.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
• Strong decision-making skills.
