About the Role

Join our team as a Panel Assembly and Shop Manager. At EQ-S, we are building energy management solutions. These solutions have indoor and outdoor equipment that need to be built and delivered to project sites in large volumes.

As Panel Assembly Shop/Site Manager of EMS assembly team, you will build the assembly facility from ground up, oversee the daily operations, manage a team of skilled technicians, and ensure the smooth functioning of the assembly operations. If you have a passion for the clean industry and possess expertise in energy‑related compute and networking equipment operations, hand tools, heavy lifting, mechanical & electrical knowledge, and power tools, join the team. This role combines hands‑on technical leadership with shop‑floor supervision and operational management in person on‑site in the Kitchener area. If you're ready to take ownership of building a busy shop with excellent project volume, we want to meet you.

Responsibilities

Shop Setup & Development (Initial Phase)

  • Lead layout planning of panel shop floor (workstations, testing area, kitting, storage).
  • Define assembly workflows and production standards.
  • Assist in selection of tools, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for panel assembly and testing.
  • Support hiring and training of panel technicians and assemblers.

Production & Operations

  • Supervise daily panel assembly activities.
  • Assign work and balance workload across technicians.
  • Ensure adherence to wiring standards, schematics, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering on drawing revisions and technical clarifications.
  • Monitor productivity, cycle time, and labor efficiency.
  • Ensure on‑time completion of production schedules.

Quality & Compliance

  • Implement quality control checkpoints.
  • Verify proper labeling, wiring standards, torque specs, and testing protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with UL / CE / NEC / IEC (as applicable).
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain build documentation and revision control.

Coordination & Communication

  • Work closely with Mechanical and Electrical technicians, Material Planner / Procurement and Field Service / Installation Teams.
  • Provide status updates on build progress via dashboards etc to stakeholders.
  • Identify risks to schedule and elevate early.

Safety

  • Enforce shop safety standards. Maintain clean and organized workstations.
  • Promote continuous improvement culture.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in control panel assembly or electrical manufacturing.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience of day‑to‑day operations and overseeing electrical and mechanical technicians.
  • Previous experience in leading the setup, build‑out of an assembly facility is required.
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of industrial control components and BOM (e.g. server racks, network switches, firewalls, breakers, relays, e‑stops, din rails, etc.).
  • Familiarity with UL and IEC (or applicable) standards.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, FAT and related automation improvements preferred.
  • Have quality mindset and drive for safety compliance to deliver panels on time and within budget and of high quality.
  • Familiarity with energy industry regulations, standards, and protocols.
