Reporting to the GIS Specialist, the GIS Analyst, Co‑op will support geospatial data integration, mapping, and analysis across infrastructure and construction projects. This role offers hands-on experience working with GIS, CAD/BIM data, and field operations to help improve data quality, workflows, and decision-making.
Location: Etobicoke, Head Office
Duration: 12 months
What You’ll Do Here:
- Assist in developing and applying geospatial solutions for regulatory and permitting aspects of infrastructure and transportation projects
- Support ETL workflows using tools like FME to integrate CAD/BIM, survey, LiDAR, and GIS data
- Help maintain and update spatial datasets used in design, pre-construction, and field execution
- Support construction operations through field maps, data collection, basic QA/QC, and progress tracking
- Assist in building simple scripts or tools (e.g., Python, ArcGIS tools) to automate workflows
- Help manage GIS data standards, projections, georeferencing, and metadata
- Support creation of maps, dashboards, and web applications (ArcGIS Online, Dashboards, etc.)
- Collaborate with internal teams and assist with documentation, support, and training materials
- Participate in occasional site visits within Aecon yards in GTA
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring to the Team:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, or a related field
- Experience or familiarity with FME Workbench and FME Flow (including Flow Apps) is an asset
- Basic knowledge of GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro/Online) and geospatial concepts
- Familiarity with CAD/BIM formats (e.g., DWG, DGN, RVT) is an asset
- Exposure to Python, ArcPy, or GIS automation tools is an asset
- Understanding of coordinate systems, mapping, and data management fundamentals
- Interest in infrastructure, construction, or utilities projects
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
