Our Capital Projects Group is seeking a Senior Estimator to analyze probable costs during all stages of project development and throughout the project life cycle to develop estimates for assigned capital projects, in support of capital budgets and project schedules, and assists with accurate planning, tendering, and contracting to clarify cost and time expectations during all phases of Capital Projects and Programs.
You will be working on some of the major subway and GO Expansion Projects like Ontario Line, Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE), Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE), Hamilton LRT, Bowmanville, Niagara, Kitchener Extension and many others.
What will I be doing?
- Prepares comprehensive industry-standard documents and reports to facilitate effective and efficient decision-making by project leader. Liaises with project team members, external agencies, and consultants to obtain information required to develop cost estimates
- Prepares tender comparisons, post-bid analyses and other estimating information for the project team to identify anomalies against the project plan, and communicates related issues and opportunities
- Prepares and maintains current cost data
- Facilitates data and information sharing between internal and external stakeholders (Sponsors, Project Delivery Teams, , with attention to data confidentiality, security, and urgency
- Reviews subcontractor bids, price schedules, or quantity surveys for multi-disciplinary services related to construction projects for accuracy and to integrate content into estimates
- Leads estimate preparation and reviews during all phases of assigned projects for different types of procurement models.
- Prepares (or leads the preparation of) estimate activities (. order-of-magnitude, conceptual, feasibility, pre-design, lump-sum, budget, value engineering, control, definitive, and final estimates)
- Preparation of estimates for major change orders, claims or variations
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in a related discipline – or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated years’ of relevant experience.
- Related experience in preparing estimates for various types of procurement models is an asset. Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP or P3), Progressive Design Build (PDB), Design Bid Build (DBB) and all other types of procurements.
- Related experience in preparing detailed estimates related to Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical and utilities on projects in various stages of lifecycle.
- Preparing cost estimates related to Lifecycle, Operations and Maintenance is an asset. (Nice to have or can be deleted) – Not required
- Experience in developing and analyzing project cost estimates, tender comparisons, post-bid analyses and other estimating information to facilitate effective and efficient decision-making by project leaders
- MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI to develop and analyze financial estimates and prepare related reports; experience with data management to prepare and maintain current cost data
- Knowledge of Cost X estimating software would be an asset
- Interpersonal and oral/written communication skills to liaise with project team members, external stakeholders
- Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) from CIQS or Membership of AACEi would be an asset.
