Job description

Internship, Office of the CEO & Corporate Communications (July - December 2026)

Paid placement, July 20 - December 18, 2026. Location: 320 Front Street West, Toronto, Ontario. In office minimum three to four days per week.

Changing the world, one book at a time. As a team of dedicated book‑loving professionals, we discover, shape, and share content that nurtures thoughts, dreams, and conversations around the globe, ensuring that new and established voices are heard.

In this role, you will engage in meaningful work that supports your professional growth and facilitates learning in your area of specialty while contributing to the success of our books.

We’re looking for an energetic, detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven intern to join the Office of the CEO & Corporate Communications team.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide administrative and project support to key colleagues in the Office of the CEO
  • Support the planning and execution of corporate events, including author receptions, lunch and learns, leadership town halls, and stakeholder engagements
  • Assist with event logistics such as venue coordination (in‑office and external), guest lists (authors, agents, media, partners), invitations, catering, and run‑of‑show development
  • Provide exceptional hospitality for authors, agents, executives, and guests, ensuring a warm, thoughtful, and on‑brand experience reflective of Penguin Random House Canada’s values
  • Help prepare briefing materials for the CEO and senior leadership, including event notes, author backgrounders, and key messaging
  • Draft and support communications related to corporate events, including invitations, internal announcements, and follow‑up correspondence
  • Draft and support corporate communications related to internal processes and procedures and announcements, balancing concise delivery and creative problem solving
  • Manage RSVP tracking, attendee communications, and guest experience details, including special accommodations and VIP handling
  • Support on‑site event execution, including coordinating with stakeholders and our Office Services colleagues, setup, registration, guest flow, and troubleshooting in a fast‑paced environment
  • Contribute to post‑event reporting, including feedback collection, attendance tracking, and summary insights
  • Handle confidential information with discretion, particularly in relation to unpublished works, author engagements, and executive communications
  • Assist with corporate social responsibility initiatives including coordinating book donations and community relations
  • Monitor media for Corporate Communications to help keep key colleagues informed on Canadian publishing news, trends, literary culture, and industry events to support relevant and engaging programming.

What you can expect from your internship experience:

You will gain valuable experience in the industry, make connections and build relationships with teams across our company while working alongside a cohort of other interns, and play a part in getting the books we publish into the hands of our readers. Through on‑the‑job learning, you will develop and gain new skills that will be valuable to you in this role and in the future.

Our interns are paid $20.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay and work 35 hours per week.

Competencies and knowledge you’ll bring to this role, and continue to build:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities with the support of stakeholders
  • Experience or interest in events and/or hospitality, putting forward the best version of our brand
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and accurately complete multiple projects and tasks at the same time
  • An effective and proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • An ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • An inclusive approach, supported by a cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds
  • Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plus
  • And, of course, a love for books!

We are currently working in a flexible/hybrid model where employees come into the office at least three days a week. As such, candidates located within commuting distance of Toronto will be shown preference.

We are actively seeking to add team members from communities with lived experiences of marginalization and underrepresentation. We respect and value each individual and are committed to creating a more diverse team and establishing a culture of belonging. If you identify as Black, Indigenous, a person of colour, a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community or another marginalized group, we strongly encourage you to apply.

We do not use artificial intelligence to screen or assess applicants. However, we may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as supporting administrative aspects of the recruitment process. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment at any part of the process. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
