The Hospital for Sick Children

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Paediatric Gastroenterologist with Expertise in Neurogastroenterology and Motility

Effective September 1, 2026, the Department of Paediatrics, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Hospital for Sick Children, located at 555 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, an academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children and affiliated with the University of Toronto, is recruiting a full time permanent staff physician as an Academic Clinician (70 percent clinical, 30 percent research, education, and administration). The successful candidate will have specific expertise in neurogastroenterology and motility and experience in endoscopy.

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition comprises 18 highly collegial faculty who provide tertiary and quaternary care clinical programs and maintain a high volume, high impact research output in one of the leading gastrointestinal divisions in North America. This position offers a unique environment for medical science discovery, with proximity to nine teaching and research hospitals and Canada's largest university.

The successful candidate must have completed training in paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Candidates must have excellent clinical abilities in general Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and must possess training and subspecialty expertise in paediatric neurogastroenterology and motility disorders. Advanced training and a special interest in endoscopy would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical care, including contribution to the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition inpatient services, including consult services and inpatient care. Clinical responsibilities will also include providing motility procedures and outpatient clinics, together with another faculty member with motility expertise, providing gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, contributing to innovation and leadership, and participating in the on call schedule within a tertiary and quaternary care environment. The ability to manage manometry and other motility testing is mandatory. Experience in aerodigestive disorders and disorders of gut brain interaction is important. Skills in advanced endoscopy would align with the needs of the division and are desirable. The Neurogastroenterology program at SickKids is supported by expert nursing staff and collaborates closely with well established adult motility units in Toronto and the surrounding region. Additional opportunities for collaboration and support exist through national aerodigestive and neurogastroenterology networks. Academic responsibilities will include teaching and mentoring fellows within the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition fellowship training program. Opportunities also exist for teaching in other programs.

All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English and must hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent degree. Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or possess comparable qualifications. Candidates must also hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary, ranging from 275,543 to 340,000 dollars per annum, will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance, and a relocation package.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of application and curriculum vitae, along with the names and addresses of three references, to Dr. Eytan Wine, Search Committee Chair, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, The Hospital for Sick Children, 555 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M5G 1X8, Canada. Telephone: 416 813 8757. Email: Eytan.wine@sickkids.ca.
