Today we are looking for a committed, talented star to join our team as Human Resources & Health & Safety Generalist
Role Overview:
As the HR & H&S Generalist, you will be responsible for supporting the organization’s people strategy through a combined focus on human resources, health & safety, and sustainability practices. This position plays a key role in developing and maintaining programs that uphold company values, promote employee engagement, ensure legal compliance, and foster a safe and healthy workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Partnership & Employee Relations
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to People Leaders on organizational policy, employee relations matters, performance management, attendance, progressive coaching, and investigations.
- Ensure consistent interpretation and application of company policies, procedures, and relevant employment and health and safety legislation.
- Support employee engagement and retention initiatives by recommending improvements that enhance the employee experience and align with company values.
- Oversee leave administration processes, ensuring timely communication of updates to Plant Leadership and supporting return-to-work plans.
- Maintain trusted relationships across all levels of the organization, ensuring employees have clear channels to raise concerns.
Human Resources & Health and Safety
- Support a full range of HR functions including recruitment, performance management, compensation, employee relations, compliance, and training.
- Lead and coordinate the orientation and onboarding processes to ensure new hires have a great new hire experience and integrate successfully into their role with the company.
- Work & coordinate with our third-party recruitment firm for all recruitment requirements
- Maintain, update, and oversee the health and safety program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and to foster a culture of safety.
- Organize and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and ensure meeting minutes, action items, and compliance requirements are completed.
- Ensure organizational and HR policies and procedures are updated regularly.
- Coordinate and deliver training sessions on HR, compliance, and H&S topics as required.
Sustainability
- Support RNF interdepartmental sustainability initiatives, such as:
- TRUE Zero Waste Certification – Water & Waste Committee
- Employee Commuting Program
- Sustainability Policy Development & Implementation – Single Use Plastics Ban, Kitchenware Program, Waste Segregation Policy, etc.
- Creation and delivery of sustainability education content for employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders
- Support RNF departments in embedding sustainability and developing ambitious goals aligned with our purpose and values, using new and existing frameworks such as B Impact Assessment, UN Sustainable Development Goals, etc.
- Support new and ongoing environmental and sustainability initiatives.
Education & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in an HR capacity, preferably within an HR Generalist role
- Previous experience in Manufacturing, or Plant Operations preferred
- Strong understanding and demonstrated application of employment law and health and safety legislation
- Completed University Degree or College Diploma/Certificate in Human Resources Management preferred (other relevant and related fields may also be considered)

- Strong attention to detail and ability to help to build and grow an HR and H&S department that delivers forward thinking, best practices to support the organization and its employees
- Strong communication, relationship building, and networking skills
- PASSIONATE with a positive attitude and a desire to learn and grow
- TEAM player, collaborative, with a strong customer service mindset
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills, self-starter with a high level of initiative and AGILITY
- Ability to take OWNERSHIP to work independently and prioritize workload
- Demonstrate HUMILITY throughout the company on a daily basis
- Aptitude to exhibit, RESPECT and protect RNF Pet’s Values in a changing environment
- Strong problem-solving ability, resourceful, adaptable
- Strong technical aptitude, advanced ability using Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio
- Experience with SAP, MS 365 and MS TEAMS an asset
