The Environmental Technician will work with the following equipment: Ion Exchange resin columns, regeneration system, Batch treatment system, filter press, RO System, Scrubbers, various controllers/meters, pumps, mixers, filters, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, and other waste treatment equipment. The Technician has the responsibility of operating equipment under routine and abnormal conditions, data gathering, and will be exposed to chemicals, hazardous wastes and other occupational risks while performing daily job duties. The Technician is required to undergo operational and chemical handling training prior to the start of performing these duties and will actively participate in ongoing requisite training.
- Work with EHSS Engineer to ensure EHSS controls are functioning as designed and report any non-conformances.
- Operate and monitor RO/DI water system and Wastewater Treatment Ion exchange system.
- Utilize handheld monitoring equipment (pH probes, conductivity probes, etc.).
- Able to clean and calibrate pH and ORP probes.
- Monitor other environmental operational control devices (scrubbers, Mist Eliminators and Bag houses).
- Maintain chemical inventory for Ion exchange systems and regenerate systems as needed or as they relate to waste treatment operations and order products as needed.
- Empty the filter press and transfer cake to sludge boxes.
- Power wash filter press clothes and replace filter press cloths as needed.
- Manage hazardous waste according to TDG regulations.
- Audit scrap metal recycling areas and monitor ongoing metals and non-hazard waste recycling initiatives.
- Work on Precious metals resin recovery system.
- Complete metal precipitation / treatment by batch treatment.
- Complete shipping documentation for hazardous waste and recycling materials.
- Keep accurate records of all environmental operational control devices
- Ability to drive a forklift or be certified within 90 days. Assist in materials movement as it relates to the EMS.
- Follow and promote correct use of necessary Personal Protective Equipment as it relates to the WT Dept.
- Assess building for security compliance and report findings.
- Replace batteries on various aspects of the security system.
- EMS Systems Duties
- Remain familiar with relevant CEPA, MOE, MOL, Fire Code and TDG requirements for a manufacturing environment and address compliance concerns as needed.
- Enforce and support company hazardous materials and waste labeling requirements.
- Respond to chemical spills and support the emergency response team as needed.
- Follow all safety measures when handling chemicals and hazardous waste regarding use, mixing and disposing of these materials.
- Support on-site treatment and off-site shipments of wastes and recyclable materials.

- Ability to read, write and communicate in English to the degree necessary to perform the job.
- Able to lift 50lbs (23kg) on a regular basis.
- Able to work with requisite chemicals and perform laboratory analysis as required.
- Able to climb ladders and be comfortable to work at heights.
- Able to work outside during all four seasons.
- Be computer literate with thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Provide on the job training to new EHSS operators as needed.
- Maintain a safe, neat, and orderly workplace.
- Able to communicate effectively in both printed and verbal formats.
- Able to efficiently perform and monitor several related activities.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Some college with basic chemistry focus or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum one year experience working in an environmental/safety role in a 24/7 manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Previous water or wastewater treatment experience is preferred.
- Some mechanical aptitude is an asset.

The expected base annual compensation range, in USD, for this position is as follows:
$52,532 - $83,034
