The Team
The Creative School provides a distinctive crossroads for creative and scholarly disciplines. These same programs also attract exceptional faculty who provide leadership through teaching as well as their research, artistic and professional pursuits.
The Opportunity
The Production Intern provides technical and organizational assistance and support to faculty, staff and students during classes and production work, both curricular and co-curricular. They provide basic training on the technical and operational use of equipment and software in support of all school activities. Additionally, they facilitate the setup and assists in the operation of equipment and facilities in support of the Production (Live Event, Live Performance and Media) activities in The Creative School, and assists in the organization and production of special events and co-curricular initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
- Provides first-level technical assistance; assists students with equipment and software problems, assists in the coordination of technical needs of students based on curricular and co-curricular requirements, and monitors progress of production work.
- Conducts technical demonstrations for students, staff and faculty; provides and demonstrates approved basic procedural and safety training.
Works with other staff or faculty in the development of tutorials (how-to manuals) on technical subjects relating to audio, video, lighting, rigging and digital media productions and installations. - Facilitates the set up and maintenance of equipment and facilities:Assists students, staff and faculty by preparing and setting up for and throughout classes, workshops, studios and productions (e.g. shoots, installations, set design, rigging, sound, lighting and construction, etc.).
- Participates in the maintenance of business-critical databases:Assists in maintaining adequate data management; files and archives necessary teaching materials, production elements, as well as certain student works for future demonstration purposes (e.g. to be used as examples).
- Assists in the coordination of facilities and equipment booking for all approved users:Organizes, monitors, and maintains equipment and facility bookings.
- Assists in the organization, promotion, production and execution of Creative School initiatives and projects.
Qualifications
To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
- Completion of a post-secondary degree program from The Creative School.
- Less than 6 months of similar experience is required.
- Hands-on experience is gained in the school relating to multiple aspects of live performance, events and media production.
- Technical knowledge and skills including: audio, video, lighting, rigging and scenic construction and installation for live performance, installations, set design, rigging, sound, lighting and construction.
- Basic understanding of live performance production.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to supporting TMU's principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, an ability to work with diverse populations, and knowledge of willingness to learn about how these principles should inform and shape the work of The Creative School to appropriately build a campus community inclusive of TMU's diverse student and employee population.
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment where the incumbent is frequently exposed to loud noise, constant and fast paced action.
