Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Accessibility Services, the incumbent supervises the day to day work of the On Location Accessibility Advisors and provides leadership in the provision of academic accommodations in academic settings for students with disabilities. The incumbent ensures appropriate assessment, consultation, service and referral pathways between the location(s) and Accessibility Services as well as effective communication, collaborative partnerships and thorough work processes unique to each location/site. The incumbent facilitates regular liaison between the On Location Accessibility Advisors and Central Accessibility Services staff, along with other Student Life staff; the registrars on site; academic administrative staff and faculty to develop an understanding of the role of Accessibility Services and the role of faculty and students in the accommodations process; its services and procedures. In addition, the incumbent supports the On Location Accessibility Advisors to liaise with the academic programs and colleges to enhance their understanding of the academic requirements and administrative procedures.
The incumbent supports the yearly and overall strategic plan of the Student Life On Location model including the collaboration of student life staff on location across all divisions (Career Exploration, Academic Success, Health & Wellness, & Accessibility Services). The incumbent coordinates on location efforts across all On Location Accessibility Advisors to be disseminated across Student Life while collaborating with other Student Life On Location Team Leads on yearly reports, orientation opportunities, safety checks, model revisions, and updated processes and procedures.
The incumbent provides supervisory support on role clarification and boundaries for the On Location Accessibility Advisors as well as training for new On Location Accessibility Advisors. The incumbent gives input into the development of effective practices, procedures and processes to ensure the effective delivery of accessible services and supports within Accessibility Services, including linking and streamlining processes and communication between Central and On Location Accessibility Services staff.
The incumbent works with other Team Leads within Accessibility Services with disability specific expertise to develop effective accommodations in complex circumstances considering the academic integrity of the program of study, safety to self and others, due process and effective cost management. The incumbent consults with other Team Leads within Accessibility Services on appropriate student transfers on location, joint meetings between On Location and Central Accessibility Advisors with students, and updates on trends/changes within academic sites, as appropriate. The incumbent liaises with Academic Progress & Support and Crisis as well as registrars and faculty within academic programs as appropriate.
The incumbent attends meetings and makes presentations within the on location academic location to promote an understanding of the work of Accessibility Services and the needs of students with disabilities, while considering the specific and unique needs of the on location site. The incumbent regularly shares updates and resources with on location sites and partners including yearly reviews of the work of the On Location Accessibility Advisor, studentconsultations, model revisions, and programming updates while receiving and revising processes based on feedback from each location. The incumbent provides input into effective communication strategies for students, faculty and staff.
The On Location Team Lead provides specific expertise in accommodating students with disabilities in academically specific learning environments (graduate; undergraduate; professional faculties).
The On Location Team Lead acts as a consultant on disability issues to faculty across the University, academic and administrative staff, as well as students. The On Location Team Lead is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships of mutual support with academic programs, colleges, and key partners within the University.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees all performing a similar function
- Providing case management support tostudents requiring the coordination of multiple services
- Responding to escalated complaints using informal negotiation skills
- Facilitating psychoeducational workshops that promote the development of coping strategies and skills
- Developing and implementing academic and/or social skill building programs independently
- Developing components of learning support programs
- Developing accommodation plans for students based on their learning profile and documentation
- Planning and implementing workflow for a group
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in social work, nursing, a disability related profession or field.
- Minimum five years experience in the provision of accommodations for students in post-secondary settings, case management experience with young adults with a wide range of disabilities, experience in leading and supervising a team.
- Experience in community based case management, counselling skills, and the needs of students with disabilities is required.
- Must have demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing and monitoring accommodations for academic programs for adults with disabilities.
- Must have demonstrated experience in working with adults with mental health disabilities with the requisite counselling skills for the role.
- Demonstrated experience in working within a strong network environment while maintaining role clarity among partners.
- Demonstrated understanding of disability and student success issues in the post-secondary environment. Ability to advise students in an academic context.
- Must have a commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the implications of intersectionality as it relates to a students' success at university and in a broader context. Knowledge of the Human Rights Code and its application within post-secondary education.
- Must understand the strengths and challenges of adults with disabilities and have knowledge of cultural views of disability.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally (both orally and in writing).
- Must have the ability to coordinate logistics with regards to locations; negotiate role clarity and partnerships, maintain strong care and referral pathways, problem solve complex situations and work in constantly evolving situations.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize knowledge and display sound judgment, problem solving skills, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Must demonstrate superior organizational skills, and a proven ability to multi-task, prioritize varying volumes of inquiries and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
