Our Maintenance Delivery Infrastructure team is looking for Four (4) Track Inspectors to deliver regulatory inspections for track and track infrastructure in Metrolinx owned rail maintenance facilities and rail corridors and provides operational and maintenance plans for staff, contractors, vehicles, materials, and equipment; oversees and plans the maintenance and enhancement of GO Transit owned track, right of way, and associated plant and yard track infrastructure and equipment in a safe, efficient, and effective manner, and manages project and contract administration of a variety and state-of-good-repair infrastructure projects, in a safe, timely, standardized and cost effective manner for quality services.
What will I be doing?
Perform regulatory track inspections and ensure compliance and administer maintenance planning and supervision. Provides technical/inspection/regulatory expertise and serves as the regulatory inspection provider for Metrolinx.
Responsible party for performing and reporting on regulatory track inspection requirements on their assigned territory and the protection and implementation of protections and corrections to deficiencies observed to ensure operational and public safety
Under general direction, recommends changes to procedures to improve management of risks and liabilities
Ensures understanding of existing and emerging regulatory policy with respect to railway corridor engineering and asset management
Plans, implements, assigns, and verifies remedial maintenance and rehabilitation programs for Metrolinx owned track infrastructure
Identifies program requirements relative to planned and remedial maintenance
Coordinates fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance; Oversees the sourcing of service contracts for Track Maintenance vehicles and equipment
Ensure understanding of existing and emerging regulatory policy with respect to railway corridor engineering and asset management
Optimizes rail corridor access and track protection planning to support their scopes of work minimising impacts on stakeholders and monitors maintenance activities to identify risks and opportunities and develop mitigation plans
Identifies emergent maintenance and capital rehabilitation projects and scope
Develops and updates existing policies, procedures, and various manuals and SOPs
Is responsible for the on-time-performance of every Metrolinx train, both GO and UP, that operates on their respective territory
Ensures that railway corridor asset management delivery supports rail operations, customer service, and revenue generation objectives
Monitor the current state of all track infrastructure within their respective territory and take appropriate action to address negative trends before they have an impact on safety, operations or the budget.
Hold accountability for the safety of all tracks within their respective territory.
Manages and directs contractors; delivers timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit; monitors work assignments for adherence to timelines and the achievement of performance objectives; develops and implements action plans to address performance gaps
Demonstrates leadership and core competencies at a high level of development and is an exemplary model of living the corporate Values and Code of Ethics
Guides others in the performance of their day-to-day activities without direct supervisory responsibility
NOTE:
Requires primarily outdoor work in all weather conditions, including safely working at heights, on uneven terrain, and adjacent to active railway tracks with train speeds exceeding 160 km/h; must work varying shifts (including weekdays, weekends, statutory holidays, and nights) and respond to emergencies when required, and participate in a scheduled on-call rotation; must be able to travel within the GTHA as required, lift up to 80 lbs, maintain full PPE compliance, and meet the requirements of a safety-sensitive position.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Demonstrated Experience preferably in a track construction, inspection, or maintenance environment
- Completion of a degree in Engineering or diploma in a related field is considered an asset – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
- Experience with maintaining rail tracks, rights of way, and associated plant and yard track infrastructure and equipment
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Railway Safety Act and railway infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and construction practices
Knowledge of Canadian Railway Operating Rules, Track Inspection Guidelines, and Safe Railway Operations.
Project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls and monitor inspection and maintenance activities for adherence to timelines, budgets, and project performance objectives is considered an asset
Risk assessment principles and practices to manage and monitor the assessment of work sites for contractor compliance with rail corridor access terms and conditions
Analytical and problem-solving skills to respond to and evaluate emergency calls and determine appropriate response to minimize service disruptions
Proof of Track Inspection Guidelines Certificate and CROR Foreperson or other required.
A valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license is required, with a good driving record (less than 2 demerits)
Must be able to pass the qualification course for CROR Foreperson and TIG qualification (written test) within 6 months of hire.
