NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components for the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. Operating from a 120,000 sq. ft. facility at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto, our dedicated team is committed to delivering the highest quality products to specifications and on time. We are seeking a Training Specialist to join our team.
The Training Specialist reports directly into the Director, Human Resources and will lead the day-to-day administration and technical rollout of our Learning Management System (LMS) [e.g., Absorb, Alchemy, Workday, Docebo]. This role ensures employees are trained, certified, and capable to perform in a regulated manufacturing environment and acts as the bridge between technical configuration, content migration, and user adoption. The ideal candidate ensures the LMS is configured, tested, and maintained to provide a seamless learning experience, supporting the company's transition to a modern, digital learning ecosystem.
Technical DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. LMS Implementation & Configuration
- Lead in the evaluation, design, and implementation of the Learning Management System (LMS) by enabling scalable, data-driven training delivery.
- Own end-to-end LMS implementation timeline, including planning, testing, go-live, and stabilization phases.
- Benchmark LMS usage metrics against industry best practices.
- Configure LMS settings, branding, and user interface to align with organizational needs.
- Migrate legacy training data and content into the new LMS, ensuring accuracy.
- Integrate third-party tools and platforms with the LMS.
- Define user roles, permissions, and group structures.
2. Content Development & Management
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to review and update existing training materials for digital delivery with the target to build a comprehensive scope for overall company training process.
- Upload, validate, and test eLearning courses (SCORM/xAPI packages) and supporting materials (videos, PDFs, role plays).
- Develop engaging training aids, such as user guides and manuals.
3. System Administration & Technical Support
- Act as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting LMS technical issues.
- Manage user accounts, including onboarding new users and automating enrollment processes.
- Liaise with the LMS vendor’s support team regarding system-specific issues
4. Training Coordination & Delivery
- Create, assign, and track training curriculums and mandated compliance training for all staff.
- Schedule and coordinate virtual and in-person training sessions, including managing web delivery tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- Monitor training completion rates and send automatic notifications or reminders to learners.
- Update reporting to include training gaps / risk areas (not just completion rates).
- Track certifications and ensure audit-ready records (ie. AS9100).
5. Data Reporting & Analytics
- Generate, analyze, and distribute reports on usage, performance, and compliance for management.
- Gather feedback from trainees and trainers after educational sessions to improve program effectiveness
- Complete additional projects and responsibilities as required.
EXPECTATIONS:
Assist the Director, HR in efficient HR fundamentals and process (cost, quality, speed, customer satisfaction) and work in partnership with the business to support the implementation of the Learning Management System to help increase employee productivity and engagement, specifically:
- Establish clear and robust data governance rules for LMS
- Implement best, agreed-to, practices where they differ from legacy data
- Lead successful LMS rollout across the whole organization
- Drive adoption and compliance for all departments
- Enable scalable digital training infrastructure
- LMS implementation delivered on time and within scope
- User adoption rates of at least 80% of active users within the first 3 months
- At least 80% course completion within the first 6 months
- Achieve 100% completion rate for mandatory compliance training
- Ensure reduction in manual training administration
- Migrate data or training from others sources to be centralized in the LMS
- Ensure renewal ie. Annually of any training is automatically set up within LMS
- Ensure inactive employees still active in LMS is less than 2%
- Be punctual and prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time every day.
- Plan vacation, personal time, and absences responsibly in accordance with company policy and operational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Education, Training, HR, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in training coordination or LMS administration, with a proven track record in LMS implementation.
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with modern LMS platforms (e.g., Absorb, Alchemy, Workday, Docebo) and e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Captivate).
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of SCORM/xAPI standards and instructional design principles.
- Skills: Exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support users and collaborate with stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing).
- Familiarity with CGP and ITAR compliance is an asset.
- Knowledge of HTML or basic coding for customization.
CPTD (Certified Professional in Training and Development) certification.
