Job Description

This MEP Revit Designer role is with Dennis Group’s strategic partner, IFAB Engineering Partners (), a privately held company in Cambridge, Ontario that provides design and engineering services to a broad range of food and nutraceuticals sectors, with an emphasis on primary and secondary protein processing. More information about the partnership can be found at -canada/.

IFAB Engineering Partners Ltd. is seeking serious applicants to fill the role of MEP REVIT Designer. Work is performed in collaboration with a full complement of designers and engineers from a variety of disciplines, with primary emphasis on mechanical design. The MEP Revit Designer works to develop mechanical BIM models on a variety of IFAB projects ranging from small building renovations to multi-million dollar new builds, with designs all aimed at optimization and value for the clients. The person in this role promotes and increases the 3D Modelling and BIM capabilities for IFAB.

The ideal candidate for this position has experience with mechanical design, including plumbing, piping, and HVAC systems. An understanding of the food and beverage industry would be considered an asset. We seek people who are proud of their work, and who go the distance to ensure both accuracy and on time delivery. In return, we offer an opportunity to work with a first-class group of professionals, in a vibrant modern office with a culture of openness, transparency, and work/life balance. The successful candidate will benefit from an industry leading compensation package and we provide excellent opportunities for professional development and advancement.

IFAB ENGINEERING PARTNERS

IFAB is Integrated Food and Buildings. We offer consulting services for integrated project management and multi-disciplinary building solutions in the fast-paced industrial food sector, including process optimization, project management, and full design and engineering services from original concept to capital investment analysis and then through construction to final building commissioning. We work across North America with highly recognized food producers.

Our team has been together since 2011, with the core group having worked together more than fifteen years. We set ourselves apart from other consulting firms with excellent long-term client relationships, collaboration for solid solutions, and maximum efficiency in our specialized sector. Plus, we genuinely enjoy working together!

Key duties and responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with designers, engineers, technical specialists, and project managers to design optimized industrial and commercial facilities;
  • Provide technical expertise and support to all engineering disciplines, with primary focus on mechanical design for plumbing, piping, HVAC systems, and process equipment requirements;
  • Develop mechanical BIM models and schedules for preliminary and detailed design, including permit, tender, and construction drawings;
  • Visit project sites to conduct surveys of existing or new systems, gather information, write reports, and to meet with clients, contractors, and local authorities to determine solutions to problems;
  • Participate in 3D modelling of existing sites to be renovated;
  • Participate in design team collaboration in order to achieve optimal design and value for the client;
  • Provide project coordination and administration services on projects, including shop drawing reviews, site reviews, responses to RFIs, and overall project documentation;
  • Increase the BIM capabilities of IFAB, including a proactive approach to enable other designers with a library of BIM tools and models.

Position Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in architectural design/engineering from a recognized college, university or training institution;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a designer, BIM designer, or a similar role is preferred;
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency with REVIT;
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the Ontario Building Code and ideally also experience with the National Building Code;
  • A working understanding of codes and regulations associated with mechanical design (i.e. A.S.H.R.A.E. and appropriate CSA Standards) would be considered an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong technical, organizational, coordination, and communication skills, as demonstrated through previous project work;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work as part of a team;
  • Desire to develop skills and expand career;
  • Proven experience with office software such as the MS Office Suite;
  • Experience in the food sector is considered an asset but is not a requirement.

Travel and Working Conditions

  • Work is completed in a newly renovated modern office environment, with some work on active construction sites and food factories;
  • Limited travel may be necessary to visit client sites; travel is expected to be required 5-15% of the time, including occasionally overnight.

IFAB Engineering Partners welcomes and encourages employees from diverse backgrounds. Accommodations are available upon request to provide an equal opportunity workplace for all employees.
