OVERVIEW
The Director, Surgery Health Services plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing one of Michael Garron Hospital’s largest and most dynamic clinical programs. Reporting to the Chief, Acute Care Programs and working in close collaboration with the Co-Medical Directors, the Director provides strategic and operational leadership for a comprehensive Urban Community Hospital Surgical Program that includes 17 Operating Rooms, inpatient surgical services, multiple procedural areas, ambulatory orthopedics, medical device processing and an off-site surgical centre.
As a key steward of clinical excellence, the Director is accountable for the clinical, technical, educational, human resource, and financial performance of the Surgery Health Service. Guided byMGH’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities, the Director drives high-quality patient care, optimizes service delivery and access, and ensures seamless integration across the continuum of perioperative and surgical services. The Director leads continuous quality improvement, advances system redesign and fosters an environment where innovation, engagement and collaboration enable exceptional patient outcomes and operational performance.
EDUCATION
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (or active enrollment with completion within two years of appointment).
- Current registration with professional College/Association, as applicable.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in perioperative/surgical services or a closely related field.
- Proven ability to lead team-based decision-making and empower point-of-care leadership.
- Expertise in process redesign and continuous quality improvement (, Lean, PDSA, Six Sigma).
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing complex operating and capital budgets.
- Demonstrated success in business development, program growth and change leadership in a fast-pacedenvironment.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders; excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
- Experience leading professional practice innovation, coaching and motivating interprofessional teams.
- Computer literacy in administrative and clinical applications relevant to perioperative services.
- Good work and attendance record.
